Okay, so everyone's probably heard the story of Beauty and the Beast. It's a really cute little story. But the only story that ever gets examples in modern day is Cinderella. This story is different, though. This is a modern day example of Beauty and the Beast.

Prolouge:
The school bell rang just as I was getting out of my mom's SUV. "Crud," I muttered under my breath. "Love ya Mom! Gotta go!" I yelled over my shoulder as I ran to my first period class. I was breathless as I pushed the door open to my first period with Ms. Brewster. "Ah, Callista," my teacher said as I quickly found my seat. "Hi, Ms. Brewster," I said shyly. I was never late, and this was seriously embarrassing. I put my silver, blue, and black messenger bag next to my seat and got out my notebook, a pen, and Speak. All ninth graders had to read it over the summer, and seeing as we were still in the first quarter, we were still analyzing it. Ms. Brewster had written a warm-up question on the board. I flipped my notebook open and carefully wrote in neat, curly handwriting, "Do you think that the author could've been talking about a personal experience or the experience of a loved one in Speak?" I tapped my pen on my chin as I thought. Then I put my pen to the paper and began to write. "I think that the author must've been retelling the experience of someone close to her because of the strong description of the event and the guilt fo-" As I was writing the last word, the classroom door slowly creaked open, and the room was silent. Everyone looked towards the door as a short, red headed, green eyed boy walked in. "Um, hello," Ms. Brewster greeted the boy. "Hi, my name is Markus." Some of the guys in the back sniggered. Ms. Brewster shot them a death glare that instantly shut them up. "Is this Ms. Brewster's classroom?" he continued. "Yes, it is. Welcome, Markus. Would you like to introduce yourself?"
"Sure." Markus replied. He stood at the front of the classroom, and began a robotic speech that sounded rehearsed. "Hi, my name is Markus Brown. I'm 14 and I moved here from Dallas, Texas. My dad's in the military so we move around a lot. And I'm going to tell you now, I might not seem as quote on quote normal as some of you because I have mild Autisum and dyslexia. So I can mainly function, but I can't read as well as some of you can; I may seem a little different, and I'd appreciate if I wasn't shunned because of that."
"And I can assure you that you won't," Ms. Brewster told him, shooting another death glare at the guys in the back. "Now, you can go take a seat next to Callista."
I waved at him. After I took his seat I whispered, "Hi."
"Hey," he replied, and then we both went back to doing our thing. Little did I know that we would be talking a lot more later.
