- Becky's P.O.V -
After we all ate burgers and had some birthday cake, we all sat at the outdoor couches and chairs around a propane fire, just talking. I missed my family so much.
My grandparents were sitting on a small couch with my parents, across from the replica couch that Zoe, Alfie, Joe and I were all sitting at, only a glass outdoor coffee table separating us. My other relatives were all sitting on the sides, but still quite close to the couches we were sat at so they could still engage in conversation with us.
"Have you been playing piano, Becky?" My grannie asked. Oh God, no. My cheeks flushed.
"Um, no, not since I moved, Gran." I said, nervously, hoping she wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Let's just say she's my #1 supporter. "Why not?" Grannie asked. "I don't have a piano, I haven't played for like a year anyways." I explained. "You're so good, though!" Grannie said, "Have you guys heard her play before?" She asked, directing her question to Joe, Zoe, and Alfie. They shook their heads. "Oh! You have to watch this video of her playing!" Grannie said, whipping out her iPhone. "Oh my God, no." I mumbled, covering my face. "Grannie please, don't." I mumbled. She pulled up a video of me when I was 18 at a piano recital, playing "River Flows in You" that she downloaded off the computer.
(Guys, you HAVE to listen to this song on Youtube, its seriously gorgeous.)
She handed her phone to joe, who leaned across me to show Zoe and Alfie as well. He clicked play, and it started with me sitting down at the gorgeous grand piano, shaking my hands out nervously. I placed my hands in the right spots on the piano, getting my foot ready on the damper pedal (sustain). Then, I started. I cringed at my 18 year old self, knowing that I could do so much better now. Back then, I was so choppy.
Once the video finished, I had my hands covering my extremely hot face.
"Becky, oh my god, I had no idea how good you were!" Joe said, placing his hand on the small of my back, supportively. "That was seriously amazing." Alfie said. "Why haven't you played for us yet?! Becky, you're amazing!" Zoe gushed.
"Thanks," I squeaked. "Becky hates playing for people, she always has, so that night was a pretty big deal. When she used to practice, she would sit at her electric piano with the headphones in, and all you could hear was her nails clicking on the keys." Mom explained.
I laughed slightly, "I always did that, even after that night."
"How old were you there?" Zoe asked, "18," I said, "I had only been playing for around 11 years." I said. "11 years!?" Alfie asked, I shrugged. Then, my 3 year old cousin (well, first cousin once removed), Jasmine came running up to me. "Hey, you!" I said with a wide smile, picking her up and placing her in my lap. She giggled and hugged me.
"I missed you." She said. My heart almost melted. "I've missed you too, Jazzy." I said, squeezing her.
"Do you know Joe?" I asked her, pointing to Joe, sitting next to me. She shyly shook her head and Joe kindly smiled at her, "Hi Jasmine."
"Hi." She said shyly. "Joe's very handsome, isn't he?" I asked, looking down at the little girl in my lap. She nodded slowly, looking up at me. "Like a prince!"
"Yes, just like a prince." I agreed, tickling her sides, throwing her into a fit of giggles. The night slowly came to an end as it started to get very dark outside.
The worst part of the night started to take form-the goodbyes. I said goodbye to all of my relatives, giving them all a hug and a kiss on the cheek, saying I would miss them all, which was true. The car ride home was boring and felt like forever. Joe, Zoe and I were all squished in the back since we were the shortest, and alfie was in front of Zoe, since he needed the most leg space, and Shawn was the 3rd tallest, almost beating Joe, but he refused to sit in the back with Zoe and I.
I grew tired and rested my head on Joe's shoulder, intertwining our hands. I closed my eyes and listened to Joe's quiet breathing until we got home.
We all filed into the house once we got there and Shawn instantly said goodnight, even though he probably wasn't going to bed, he was most likely just going to go play video games. We all tiredly retired to our bedrooms as well.
Once Joe and I got to my room, I took off my make up, changed into my warm pyjamas, and tossed my hair into a messy bun
I felt Joe's arms wrap around my waist, giving me a hug from behind. I turned around and hugged him properly, wrapping my arms around his waist, stuffing my face into his chest.
"Did you have a good time tonight?" I asked, looking up at him. "Mhm," he hummed, taking my face in his hands and kissing me slowly. He suddenly pulled back with a completely serious face.
"Who's Luke?" He asked. My breath hitched at the random question, then I sighed.
"I guess now is a good time." I said nervously. "Um, I need to tell Zoe and Alfie as well, they deserve to know, too." I said, letting go of our embrace, then going out the door. I knocked on Zalfie's door, my hands starting to shake. Zoe opened the door, looking quite tired. "Um, can you guys come into my room for a few minutes. I kind of have some explaining to do." I said nervously. Zoe's face instantly filled with concern, "yeah, of course, are you okay?" She asked, touching my arm. I nodded, "I will be after I explain." I said, Alfie popping up behind Zoe. We went into my room, where Joe was sitting on my bed patiently. Zalfie and I took a seat on my bed as well, I leaned against the wall and spread my legs across Joe's.(Trigger warning: abuse&alcohol abuse)
"Okay, so earlier today, Parker, my friend you guys met yesterday with Sara, was at the door and we were talking. He kind of said he wasn't very fond of Joe, and then he compared Joe to my ex-boyfriend, Luke." I explained to Zoe and Alfie. They nodded. "I got quite angry at him and slammed the door on him, only to find out that Joe was on the other side and he heard it all." I said.
"Parker said that Joe was going to end up like Luke. Luke was the last boyfriend I had before Joe.We started dating when I was about 18 and a half. We were together for quite a while, around 9 months." I said, my voice getting shaking as I talked about him. "Um, Luke started out as a normal teenager, going to parties and drinking. Of course he was pretty responsible since he was 19 and legal, (legal drinking age in Canada is 18 or 19, depends on which province you're in) but that was only for a while. I was too naive to notice anything, but Luke started to drink a little more often, and go to parties and clubs more. He started to show up at my door completely drunk at midnight, then it started happening every weekend." I said, feeling a tear roll down my cheek at the memories.
"One day.. again, he showed up drunk at my house at a ridiculous time. I brought him in and started to tell him that he needed to stop drinking and showing up at my house in the middle of the night." I said, tears streaming down my face, "He got angry at me and told me that he could do anything he wants and then he..." I stopped, wiping my tears away, starting to uncontrollably sob into my sleeves. Joe instantly pulled me into him, wrapping his arms around me and stroking my hair. "he-he hit me, Joe." I sobbed. "Shh, baby, its okay, you dont have to continue." Joe said soothingly. My sobs died down a little bit, but only into a quiet cry. I looked at Zoe and Alfie. Zoe was crying as well and Alfie was stroking her arm soothingly. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that, Becky." Alfie said, reaching over and putting his hand on my knee sincerely.
"I'm sorry I'm such a mess, I just felt like you guys needed to know." I said quietly. "Thank you for telling us. We all love you so much." Zoe said, bringing us all into a group hug. I smiled, "Thank you for understanding. I love you guys so much."
"We'll see you in the morning." Alfie said, rubbing my arm. "Yeah, have a good sleep, you guys." I said as they walked out. I closed the door after them, turned off the light, and curled up into Joe on my bed. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you before. I was scared." I said. "You should never be scared to tell me anything. And I promise you, you'll never have to go through that again." Joe said, kissing my forehead.
"I love you." I whispered. "I love you too, gorgeous." He whispered back, before I lightly kissed him."Goodnight, love." Joe said, right before I closed my eyes, sleep quickly taking over me.
Kind of a short chapter, but it's a filler. and now you know who Luke is and what he did.
