Diana was a problem none of you knew how to fix. Cas couldn't find her, none of you could get any leads, and you had no idea if she knew that the spell she put on you had broken. You assumed she knew, since Cas had always been able to find her before, keep an eye on her, and now she was suddenly gone. It made sense that if she knew everything was out in the open, she would go undercover, to protect herself while planning her next move.

The only thing for you to do was lay low in the bunker with Dean. Cas and Sam were doing their best to dig up anything helpful, but it was looking more and more like you were just going to have to wait it out until Diana made the first move. And even then, you weren't sure what your counter move would be. Diana was human. Sure, she was working for the wrong side, casting heavy duty spells, and trying to pave the way for some evil to enter the world. But she was still human. And the Winchesters didn't kill humans.

Would this situation force an exception to that rule? Was there another way to stop her?

Of course, Diana wasn't the only thing on your mind. With Sam and Cas out all the time searching for Diana, you and Dean were left alone in the bunker- nothing to do but feel awkward around each other.

Things between you and Dean were a little shaky, to say the least. You were still hurting over the fact that as soon as he realized the depth of his feelings, his answer was to run. You wanted to get over it and move on, you really did, but any time he was near you, all you could think about was how he had betrayed you. However, Dean was trying his best to make it up to you and prove that you could trust him again. You both decided that the best thing for both of you was to start over, and take things slowly, so he had helped you move your things into a spare bedroom to give you some space.

You knew it was necessary, given everything that had happened, but you couldn't help but lay awake at night, basking in the memories you now had and wishing Dean was laying next to you. Those memories tortured you. You and Dean had been happy. Romantic-comedy happy. Hand-holding, giggling, slow dancing without music, staring into each other's eyes for hours happy. You wanted that back more desperately than you had ever wanted anything.

It was a night when those thoughts were robbing you of sleep when Dean softly knocked on your bedroom door.

"Y/N? It's just me. You awake?"

"Yeah, come on in."

Dean entered, wearing only a t-shirt and his boxers, his hair matted on one side where he had been laying down.

"What's wrong?" you asked, leaning up on your elbows.

"Nothing. I just..." he paused and frowned, as if trying to figure out the right thing to say. You waited patiently for him to find the words. "I miss you." That simple statement cut into you like a knife in your gut.

"I miss you, too," you whispered.

Dean stared at you for a moment, green eyes burning through you, then turned and left the room.

The next week brought a stroke of good luck. Sam called, saying that he and Cas were in Idaho, chasing down some old friends of Diana's who might be able to help.

"Just hold on a little longer, Y/N. We might have something to report soon."

"Be careful," you said. A heavy silence stretched on the line.
