I sit in my room staring at the wall in pitch black darkness. Harry wasn't in school today. Did I get him in so much trouble that his mom kept him home from school? Just thinking about the possibilities is crushing me inside.
A sudden knock at my door interrupts me from my horrid thoughts. I don't say come in but whoever it is steps in anyway. I close my eyes at the burst of light that now fills my room. I don't look up, but I feel two arms wrap around me. I feel a face snuggle into my neck and look up to see the top of Korey's head. Behind her is her Mexican friend, Mila. She lifts two fingers to say hi.
I push Korey off of me and ask, 'What?" in a confused tone. It was kind of weird for her to be just barging into my house without permission. Her face seems surprised, like I should know why she is here. Maybe she heard about how I got Harry in trouble. I hope that's not why she's here.
"I'm here to support you."
"Support me on what, exactly?" I respond baffled at her response.
"You're going out with Merlin, right? A lot of people are saying you said yes through a note." That's absurd. I never agreed to go out with him. I specifically told him I did not want to go out with him, when I walked up to his desk the other day in 4rd period.
"No! Why would you think that. Who would even make up such a thing?"
Quietly, Mila responds to my rhetorical question, "Sara." Brock's girlfriend. I knew she didn't like me from the start, but why would she even think about saying I go out with Merlin. Out of quick thinking I grab my phone and send a message to all my contacts saying:
I do not go out with Merlin. Whoever said that was lying. Discard all you think you know about my love life. Right now, I am single and happy. Boyfriend-free. Once again, I am NOT going out with Merlin nor will I ever be! Seriously ~Evangeline
"There. Problem solved." I turn my screen so the other girls can read what is on it. Then I push send and almost immediately hear their cell phones ring with the signal of a text message. Now everyone will know that the rumor Sara spread is not true, nor will it ever be. Spreading things that aren't true is just plain mean. Especially if it is about me.
After a moment of silence and awkward stares, Mila gets a text and says it's time to go. Korey nods to her and says a quick bye to me. Then they leave out. Where did they have to go? They're probably have a curfew and have to be home by a certain time. That's unlikely thought because it's Friday. Oh well. It isn't my problem anyway.
I lie down flat on my bed and begin to think about Harry again. Should I text him? Maybe he's mad at me. I don't know what I should do, but I do want to check on him to see if he's alright. With my decision made, I pick up my cell and dial his number. The phone rings for agonizing seconds until he picks up.
"Hmm?" he moans. He was probably asleep or something by the sound of his voice.
"Um, sorry to wake you up but it's E. I just wanted to check and see if you were ok. You weren't at school today and I think I got you in trouble yesterday with your mom and all, and I just-" he cuts me off.
"It's alright, really. I didn't get in as much trouble as you think." he states.
"Then why weren't you at school?" I ask questioningly.
"I told my mom I was sick so I could stay home," He whispers, " but I'm really not...You seem pretty worried about me."
"Well duh! Why wouldn't I be. I get kicked out of your house while your mother is screaming at you isn't something that I just brush out of my mind! For all I know you could've been... I don't know, hurt." I cry out. Neither of us talk while I try to catch my breath.
