"Ma'am, I am sorry to inform you but we still haven't found a suitable bone marrow for your daughter."
I weakly rose from my bed when I got woken up by noises. I saw dada holding mama into his arms as she was shedding with tears. When they noticed that I was awake, the doctor coughed and looked at me. "How are you feeling right now, Miss Sakura?" he asked. I felt my heart was racing like crazy. Even though the room is cold, I can still feel a bead of sweat forming in my forehead.
"I-I'm good, doc." I lied. The past few days, after Third and I separated, I always felt a pang of pain in my arms and body. Last night, I couldn't sleep properly because I could feel how my bones were pressuring each other, grinding to each other hard like 2 metal bars creating friction. And I could describe it as much more painful than when you're having a toothache.
But of course, I couldn't just say that in front of my parents. I don't want them to worry... But the doctor seems unconvinced. He faked a cough and looked at my parents,"I can't guarantee you the safety of your child without the transplant happening. Expect that she'll feel weaker more each day."
I am trying to listen to their conversation but all I could think about is how it is impossible for me to live longer. I laughed inside my head.
'Who am I joking anyways? I already am aware of that. I just chose not to believe in it... until it slapped me back to reality.'
My head hurts so much that I held onto it. I feel as if my brain's being smashed by 10 pounds of barbell. I heard the panic noises surrounding me, but I'm fixated more by the fact that I wanted this pain to stop... only for me to realize I'm wailing in pain.
"Stop! Make this stop, please!" I heard myself begging as I put the palm of my hands in between my forehead.
The pressure is suffocating, it's painful.
I can hear mama and dada calling my name. I can hear the nurses rushing in. I can hear the machine beeping so loud. It overwhelms me. How I wish this end. How I wish it stopped.
It has always been noisy. It has always been making me anxious. It has always been like this. I never liked anything loud. I always wanted a quiet time.
I always wanted a peaceful mind... But I'm not getting any. And I'm nowhere near. I wish it would just end. I wish I'm not suffering like this...
I felt a gentle brush on my hair. I inhaled slowly, and as if my system knows already by now of who owned that calming musky smell. A smell that you could sense after the rain, a smell that you could sense when the flowers and trees are blooming already.
"Third..." I weakly called him. I saw him smile at me and cup my cheeks with his hands.
"Hello, flower. Feeling better?" I smiled at the endearment he just called. Just as I described his presence as an after rain, he called me flower.
As if we already have a deep connections rooted between us. "Yes. But... can I have some water please?" He instantly rose up from his seat and got me a cup of water. I think, due to a lot of crying before I passed out, it's why I have my throat feeling dry and thirsty.
"Thank you, Third," I said. He gets the cup from my hand and puts it on the bedside table. "I brought an oats that I've prepared overnight in case you're hungry."
I felt my mouth watered as I saw the sight of the deliciously chopped banana and berries on top of the oats. He even sliced a pomegranate fruit for me. I am never a fan of oatmeal, but he made it look appetizing.
"You made that?" I asked in awe. He just shyly shook his head up and down as he placed his hand behind his nape. "Yeah. I was sick worried when your mom went to my room and asked me to stay with you." I can't help but smile, despite the worry I have in my heart. Mama never failed to show her love to her daughter, and I can't be any more lucky with that.
"Mama didn't have to go through such length," I chuckled. I heard a 'Hmp!' from Third so I looked at him.
He's now making his arms crossed and sulked like a child. After last night, I never thought I could laugh harder like this when I saw how cute he was.
"Stop laughing! It's not funny. When your mom rushed into my room to tell me to look over for you, I had a hard time calming myself kasi I'm scared that something might happen to you," he said annoyingly. The curved of my lips still did not leave my face but my heart can already feel the warmth of his genuineness.
I stared at him for a moment. I am so grateful that I have ran into meeting him here. The scary thought of hospital lessens its scariness after Third's existence at all. I never thought that I would feel serenity and solace at the same time in a place like this.
Third, I wish I had met you sooner.
I wish we had spent more time together before we found out we're ill to death. I wish we had bonded more before we realized we're running out of time.
Will life be this cruel if we met early?
Will it get any better?
