"Everyone calm down!" Sam yelled to the people inside of the room who were starting to riot "We don't know what's going on so we might as well manage this in order"
The people obeyed and the room was finally silent "Alright then" Sam said as the lights suddenly started to flicker. Luke glanced around the room, feeling a hand intertwining fingers with him, he knew it was Michael, but the bad feeling in his gut wouldn't let him react, luckily the green eyed only squeezed tighter so nothing that comes would tear them apart
"Oh no" A voice was heard between the people "It's happening, not now, please, not now" a middle aged man stormed out of the crew and made his way to the computer behind Sam "Hello, Doctor Jenner reporting, code black, is someone hearing?"
"Code black? What is that supposed to mean?" Sam asked
"Hello?! Som- Fuck!" The man slammed the keyboard in anger, passing his hands through his bald scalpp
"Answer me!" Sam demanded "What does code black means? What is happening?" He grabbed Dr. Jenner's coat and obliged him to stare into his eyes
"I would if you'd let go of me" Dr. Jenner gritted his teeth. They stared at each other's eyes for a moment before Sam reluctantly decided to let go of him. That's when the screen in one corner of the room illuminated and showed a countdown in big red numbers 3:00, 2:59...
"Decontamination in two hours, fifty nine minutes" A feminine robotic voice spoke
"Decontamination? Wh-What is that?" A woman asked, her voice shook a little bit although she spoke with determination
"The way this building has of making sure nothing will accidentally escape" Dr. Jenner said
"Can you please explain from the beginning, who even are you?" Sam demanded. The shorter man fixed his laboratory robe before speaking "I am the doctor Shane Jenner, chief of the biological laboratory of the CDC, and I'm very sorry for all of you, but the experiment number 65 just went wrong"
"What do you mean, what experiment?"
"In these establishments we were trying to develop a cure for the virus morbo immortui. This was originally created by the government of the US as a cure to all the diseases know by man, the test subjects, they failed, the people started to die... and then to wake up, but they weren't them anymore, they were aggressive and thirsty for blood, literally. Somehow the virus escaped the facilities and started to infect the whole country, then the continent, and then the planet
Since then we've been trying to find a cure so we can start a new civilization. Today we were trying a new medicine to see if we were closer to our goal, something must have gone horribly wrong, the decontamination may only be used as a last resource"
"What is going to happen to us, Dr. Jenner?" The same woman of before spoke, her dark brown eyes filled with tears
"The decontamination consists on slowly overfilling the air with oxygen and letting a spark fly, boom! instantaneous combustion, everything bursts into flames" Shane finished. That sentence made Luke's heart skip a beat and squeeze his boyfriend's hand even tighter. Michael brought the blue eyed into a hug, wrapping his arms around the smaller boy in a protective state, although it was him who's heart was racing like hell
It can't everything end here
"Are we going to die?" Luke muttered, trying to ease down his heartbeat
"There's a way out, but it's not too safe" Dr. Jenner said
"What kind of person would let all these people to die in a place like this? Why didn't you warned us about this?!" Sam continued to argue with Shane, not helping with the scared state of mind the other 6-8 people in the room was
"Would you shut up?!" Shane raised his voice "You don't know what kind of diseases are stored in this building, Ebola, H1N2, any kind of virus you could imagine. We don't know what could go wrong out there so this had to be done. Now, you can either let me try get you guys out of here or sit and blow up"
Shane stormed to back of the desk and pulled out what seemed as a tool box, he then approximated the locked door on the left and proceeded to unscrew the little control panel inside of it.
You could feel the room getting hotter and the lights starting to fail "What is happening?" Michael spoke, the hand that remained sticked to Luke's getting sweaty
"The computer is starting to cut the unnecessary electricity" Shane muttered, concentrated on the wiring coming from the white panel on the wall "YES!" He cheered when the door suddenly opened "Everyone! We're one step closer to freedom"
"Decontamination in 2 hours 15 minutes"
Shane hard swallowed "Okay, let's go" He took a lantern from the tool box "Follow me" He started stepping into the mildly illuminated hallway, followed by Sam, then by the rest of the people
"Luke" Michael called out for the blonde boy and handed him a sharp screwdriver "Have this, and be careful." Luke noticed the hammer on Michael's hand and felt a slight wave of relief, but not enough to completely calm him down "I'll protect you"
"I love you, Mikey" He smiled, his face sweaty and tired but still with those dimples and shiny blue eyes Michael loved so much
"I love you too, Lukey" Then a brief kiss followed, before diving into the unknown.
