My eyelids began to get heavy as I stared mindlessly at the television screen in front of me. I wasn’t even sure what program Maddie and I were watching anymore, all I could focus on was how completely exhausted I was in that moment. Maddie sat next to me on the couch with her long, bony legs sprawled in every direction. She tied her blonde hair back before looking over at me.

“You look like a zombie, Scarlett.” She laughed as she spoke. I blinked a few times, smiling at her comment and began rubbing my balled fists against my sore eyes.

“I feel like a zombie.” I said as I continued to massage my eyeballs. Maddie shifted her weight so her shoulders faced me. I detached my hands from my eyes and waited for the millions of black dots floating around my vision to disappear.

“So, Bonnie chose Giselle as this year’s show.” Maddie picked pieces of lint off of the couch. “Thoughts?” Her blue eyes met mine. I shrugged my shoulders, biting back a smile.

Giselle was always my favorite ballet. Not only did I love the romance involved and the tragic heartbreak, but the beautiful choreography made the show what it was. The dancer playing Giselle needed beauty and grace and real emotion.

“I’m actually really happy about it.” I smiled as Maddie nodded her head in agreement. Maddie liked anything Bonnie did. She kissed the ground that woman walked on.

“It’s going to be amazing. Bonnie will make it better than ever.” Maddie gushed. “And you’re a shoe-in for Giselle, Scarlett.” I bit my lip and shook my head bashfully.

Looking up at Maddie’s eager face through my lashes I spoke, “I doubt that.”

“Are you serious?” Maddie’s eyebrow’s furrowed together and continued to stare me down. “Bonnie adores you. All my money is on you, Scar. All of it.” I continued to laugh and shake my head at her comment. Maddie huffed and turned her attention to her tiny mobile phone she fished out of her front pocket.

For the weeks I had known Maddie, we had grown pretty close. She always had something new to talk about and her giggly, silly personality brought out a more fun side in me. Maddie wasn’t afraid of what people thought and said what she wanted when she wanted. And I admired that about her more than anything.

“Oh my God.” Maddie mumbled under her breath as I began to tune out again. I glanced over at her and saw her scrolling through her phone like mad. Her skinny fingers couldn’t keep up with her frantic eyes.

“What?” I said as I laughed at her current state. Her eyes shot to mine as they grew even wider.

“Get me your computer.” She demanded. I raised an eyebrow at her and looked down at her phone that she was grasping, hoping to get some answers as to why she was commanding me to bring her my laptop.

“Why?” I asked.

“Just bring it to me!” She answered quickly after. I laughed in surrender and scurried to get the thin black laptop from my unmade bed. When I got within an arms reach of Maddie she tore the computer out of my hands and opened the screen. She jabbed the keys loudly as she typed in the website she was looking for after she pulled up the internet.

Sugarscape. A familiar name because well... my face was on it awhile back. I cringed a bit thinking about the looks I got from girls on campus when I was One Direction’s mystery girl. I rubbed my lips together nervously as Maddie’s eyes scanned the webpage.

“What are you looking at?” I asked as I tried to peek over her fleece covered shoulder. Maddie let out a loud squeal as she turned the screen toward me. My eyes widened when I saw the article she had just clicked on.
