{Enjoooyyyy ;)}
Mason's POV:
It confuses me when the police officer opens the passenger seat of the cruiser, gesturing me in.
"Wh-what?" I question weakly. Aren't I a criminal? Wanted?
"Just get in the car," he tells me gently.
I do as I'm told, and he shuts the door behind me. He climbs into the driver's seat, starting the car. "Where are you taking me?" I ask, playing ignorant. Maybe if I can convince him I'm not Mason, a different Mason, he'd let me go.
"Don't go bullshitting me," he says with a good-natured grin. "You're Mason Tomkins, and I'm taking you home."
I drop the act almost immediately, fear shrinking my stomach in knots. "You can't do that," I say firmly.
"Do I look like a man you can order around?" He questions, turning down a different road.
I don't answer, absolutely terrified about going home. What will my parents think? What about Cody?
Cody...
Does he still hate me? It's been, what, how long? A year? Two years? I know Cody can't hold a grudge to save a life, but what I did...
I wonder if he gave up on me. If he switched out our bunk bed for a twin sized one, sold all my furniture to pay for his new ones, went to college without worry, worried more about himself... He's probably happier now, and I can't ruin that. I just can't.
"You can't take me home," I beg with him. "Please, don't make me!"
But he ignores me, and about an hour later, pulls into a familiar driveway. There's a light on in the kitchen. I know exactly who it is. The police man stops, and orders me to get out. I don't want to. It's raining, and the scene is all too cliche in the middle of the night for me to just ring on my own doorbell- Literally.
I force my feet to move. I step out of the car, and before I have time to do anything, the police man zooms off. I shakily move across the driveway, stones crunching under my torn up sneakers. My hoodie is worn, and doesn't protect me from the rain well, so shivers wrack my body. I climb up the steps to the porch, and feel a sob rip from my throat. It's raining too hard for me to hear it.
I raise my fist and gently tap on the door. There's a moment of pause, before it slowly creaks open. His eyes are bloodshot and red- I can tell he's been crying recently -he's pale, and still as underfed as ever. He hasn't been doing well.
Why? I think. Shouldn't he be happier without me?
"Mason," he whispers, starting to sob as he forcefully pulls me into his arms, squeezing me so tight, I can't breathe.
I start to sob harder, clutching onto him. It's been too long. It's been way too long.
"Cody."
