A little while ago, I said I was rewriting The Mad Queen to self-publish. Well, that hasn't quite happened. To be perfectly honest with all of you, I do not know where to begin when it comes to self-publishing or traditionally publishing my stories. I am so overwhelmed with all of it, and because I really struggle to understand it, that impacts my ability to write the story in the first place. At this moment in time, having my stories out in the world beyond Wattpad feels like an impossibility. It feels like something that is still decades away.
I am lost, and this is really negatively affecting my writing,
However, I've had a new idea.
Recently, Patreon has been recommended to me. So, I thought I'd give it a go. I want to start my own business, if it can be called that, where I post chapters of the new version of this story, as well as one of my other stories that I stopped writing, Ritual of Blood and Bone, with bonus behind-the-scenes videos of me working on my stories. Now, there will be more than that, with ways for readers to interact with me and the story. But it will take me a little while to figure out how Patreon works, and what the best bonus content to make is.
Not only will I be focusing on Patreon, but I will also be working on growing my TikTok and YouTube platforms - of which, I have two different types of pages.
I have a YouTube Channel and a TikTok page all about my writing.
I also have a YouTube Channel and TikTok page all about my mountain adventures, cooking, wedding content (11 Weeks to go!!!!!), and general lifestyle stuff.
So, I'm going to be very busy trying to build a brand or business online.
Now, why put the new version of The Mad Queen, and The Ritual of Blood and Bone behind a paywall?
Well, I do still intend on self-publishing one day. I know there are some of you who would love to hold a physical copy of this book in your hand, so that is still the goal. However, one of the reasons why self-publishing feels impossible is the costs.
After some research, I've learned that getting a good fantasy book cover, one doesn't use stolen, copyrighted art, or A.I art, can cost up to, if not more than £1000. Adding the costs of all the different types of editing, I'm looking at another £1000, probably more. Then there is the cost of buying ISBN numbers so the books can be distributed across more platforms than just Amazon. Then I've got to think about Beta readers, formatting, and all the other elements that go into self-publishing. Basically, I do not have the funds to do all of that at the moment.
So, by using Patreon, I'm hoping I can earn a little more from my writing to go towards living, because I also have to do that haha, and towards saving up so I can pay for the book to have the best editing and cover for when it finally lands in your hands.
Now, this is a gamble. I know that the workload is going to be a lot, so I can get high-quality chapters out to you weekly, plus video and interactive content. But I am determined to make this work and be successful. I love that people can get lost in the worlds and characters I create, and I want to do that for you all again.
What are the prices?
For my lowest tier, which is called The Mad House, it is £3 a month. That was the lowest price I could make it. For that, you get a new chapter of the Mad Queen every week, as well as behind-the-scenes videos about my thought process when writing that chapter and how I write, etc. You will also have the ability to discuss with me parts you really enjoyed, and other parts you think I could improve upon. Basically, you will be involved in helping me make this book the best it can be when it gets published! Now, again, I'm still figuring Patreon out, so I will probably add more content to this tier in the future once I've wrapped my head around what works and what doesn't.
The Second Tier is £4 a month and is called Join the Rituals.
You get everything in The Mad House Tier, plus two chapters a month of the new version of Ritual of Blood and Bone and a Ritual planning and writing video. Again, this is just to start with as I get used to the workload. Once I've settled and figured it all out, I will start adding more content, and hopefully, more Ritual chapters.
Tier Three is £6.50 a month and is called Magical New Worlds. You get everything in Tiers one and two, plus access to some other stories I have worked on or am working on that haven't been on Wattpad or any other platform before. This could be from opening chapters I've written, to ideas and planning I've done for them. Trust me, I have a lot of stories and ideas to share. Some, I'm pretty proud of, and all of which I wish to self-publish in the future. And, like the other tiers, once I've settled into the workload and figured it all out, I will probably add a little more content. This will include details on my ideas for my eventual rewrite of the Skin Thief Series, as well as hearing your input on what you do and don't like about the series.
That's what I've got figured out so far.
When will this be launching?
I want to get ahead with the chapters, which means a lot of writing over the next week or so! As well as planning, filming, and editing!
The first two chapters of the Mad Queen will be out on Monday, the 20th of April. Mad Queen Updates will be every Monday after that.
Then, for the Ritual of Blood and Bone, I will release the first two chapters on Thursday, the 23rd of April. Updates, to start with, will be every other Thursday.
For the Third Tier, a video broadly discussing my other stories and how they are all going to connect will be released on Friday, the 24th of April. Then, on Sunday, the 26th of April, there will be some form of written content which is to be decided.
So, that is my update! I'm really excited, and I'm ready to be a proper writer and content creator! And don't worry, this version will remain up here on Wattpad if you don't want to join my Patreon but want to still have access to the story! And, I will also continue to update The Shadow Crawler on here, too, if you're currently reading that.
