Reaching the coffee shop, Calum was nervous as hell. It had been a minute since he had seen Kalie while not intoxicated. Does she look the same through sober eyes? What's wrong with her? How much longer until Cori walks in here with hot grits in a pot? These thoughts ran around Calum's head as he speed walked to the booth in the back where tuffets of purple hair sat astray on Kalie's head.
Kalie perked up upon seeing the Kiwi boy and immediately slid the freshly toasted peanut butter and banana sandwich to his side of the booth. "I haven't forgotten how much you loved these so I made you one." Kalie smiled timidly at the boy.
He wasn't going to lie, that sandwich looked pretty good. Like really good. It didn't help that he hadn't eaten today but he had to stay strong. "Show no weakness." Calum chanted in his head before scooting the plate back in Kalie's direction.
"Let me make this very clear. I don't want anything from you anymore. Nothing at all. I love Cori."
"Honestly Calum, think. If you love Cori so damn much, why did you end up with me that night? Cori was there. You didn't have to be with me but you decided to anyway. That has to mean something to you."
In reality, Calum had thought about it in that way, but he dismissed the idea as soon as it had come. He loved Cori. That's it and that's all. Right?
Seeing Calum at a loss for words brought a smirk to Kalie's face. Maybe he was finally starting to realize who he should be with it.
"This is exactly what I mean. If you really love someone, you know right off the bat. You wouldn't cheat on them either." Kalie continued, reaching for Calum's hand and her heart skipped a beat when he didn't withdraw from her touch.
Of course Calum knew what she said rang true in many situations but did it apply now? He had so many questions and no one to answer them but himself.
