It's well past five minutes and Bruce still hasn't come back. I don't care what he said. He could be in trouble. I have to go find him. But no way am I bringing Scarlet and Jason with me. The problem though is I can't leave them behind either. In the end I decide to let them come. Even Scarlet agrees with my idea to go find him. So with my torch in hand, I lead the way out of the living room and down the hall."Didn't Mr. Wayne tell us to stay in the living room?" Jason whimpers, holding tightly to Scarlet's hand. I stop and face both of them. "Yes. But he's been gone for nearly ten minutes now. I am going to look for him. Got a problem with it, you can always go wait in the living room. In the dark. By yourself." I smirk at the terrified look on Jason's face at the idea of him being left alone in the dark. "N-no. I-I'll go with you." I nod and continue leading the way.
Another five minutes go by and not a sound, other than the whimpers from Jason, the sound of our footsteps, and our quiet breathing, is heard. With each passing minute I become even more worried. Something horrible could've happened to Bruce, and I wasn't there to help him! What if he's... He's... No, Grayson. Get your head together. He's probably fine. I mean, he's BATMAN.
"What was that?!" Jason's voice shrieks, interrupting my thoughts. "What?" I turn to find him clinging to Scarlet in horror. I do my best to stay calm, but fear was running through me very quickly. I shut my eyes and say as calmly as possible "I'm sure is was just a mouse." But my voice shakes a little. Luckily Jason doesn't seem to notice. Scarlet on the other hand does, and looks at me worriedly. "Let's.... keep moving." Suddenly the torch flickers then goes out.
We're plunged into darkness.
Jason lets out a rather loud whimper from somewhere to my left. I walk toward it. "Jason?" I try, noticing an outline "Dick, is that you?" He asks nervously. "Yeah." I walk to his front, and he flashes a small smile. "Where's Scarlet?" I ask him glancing around the dark. "M-maybe a r-rat g-got her..." He whimpers grabbing my injured arm tightly. I bite my lip to keep from crying out in pain. "Don't be redi-" A sudden movement catches my attention. "Scarlet?" I chance asking. No answer. A scream suddenly sounds from the direction of the kitchen. My blood runs cold. That could be Scarlet!I grab Jason and sprint down the hall, but because of my horrible habbit of not paying attention to where I'm going, I smash right into the door leading to the basement.
Falling back, I land on my rear. Jason helps me up and gasps. "Th-the b-b-base-" I throw my hand over his mouth. "Shhh... You are to stay right here. At the top of the stairs. I am going to make sure all is clear downstairs. If it is, you may follow." I surprised myself on how much that sounded like Batman. Jason nods. "Here." I hand him my switchblade. "Only use it if you ABSOLUTELY have to." His eyes grow huge upon me handing the blade to him. "Cool." He breathes. I smile and, taking a breath, head down the basement stairs very slowly.
Among Bruce's extensive list of rules, there was one that I had always thought odd. NEVER go into the basement. Everytime I had asked why, he always changed the subject. Eventually I gave up asking altogether. It was probably nothing anyway. Now here I am. Walking down the bsement stairs.
About half way down I turn to check on Jason. He gives me a thumbs up showing that everything is good. I smile at him and continue walking down. Once I'm at the bottom I call Bruce's name softly. Nothing. Not even a muffled answer.
I call up the stairs to Jason, and wait for him. About a minute goes by and I realise he still isn't down here. "Jason, come on." I call again. Another minute and he still doesn't show. Now worried, I peer up the stairs and find Jason's not there. "Jason!" I shout running up the stairs. "Dick, help! I found Scarlet!" The way he said he found Scarlet filled me with horror. I run faster and catch a glimps of Jason beside Scarlet on the kitchen floor, before the door slams shut in my face. I try opening it, but it's locked. I'm trapped in the basement!
