"Rebecca," I repeat myself for like the tenth time. 
"Huh?" her head snaps up from her phone. 
"I asked you a question," I sigh. "You weren't listening again." That's not like Rebecca to not listen. She always listens. 

"I'm sorry," she looks at me. "I really am." That's also another thing: she never apologizes and now she's apologizing all the time. 
"Who're you texting?" I change the subject. 

"Nobody," she lies. And now she's lying. 


She changed and then she disappeared. And we never thought that this next year of our life would put us through hell. Most of all me, because I lost my best friend.
