Chapter 32, "I'll Always Be Here"
All I could feel was pain.
I could hear sirens; thumping; shouting; but it was all muffled.
Slowly, I opened my eyes and tried to look around the car.
"M-Mandy..." I heard a gentle whisper, and brought my attention to the drivers seat. A man, whose face was covered in blood and cuts, was looking at me. His eyes, the same brown as mine, were partially closed in pain. His hair was sticking up in the air, or at least that's what I thought.
My breathing, which was already labored from my pain, quickened and I struggled to release my seat belt. After a few minutes of struggling with it, it came undone and I fell onto the roof of the car.
We were upside down...
Slowly, I crawled to the front seat where the man was stuck, and found a woman unconscious beside him.
"Mandy, crawl through the window and get out" he instructed, trying to sound assertive but his voice came out a mere whisper.
I felt tears start welling up in my eyes, and I shook my head.
"What about mom?" I whispered, looking at her. Her head was rested against the window frame, and there was a huge gash across her forehead. I turned my attention to her chest, and waited for it to move as she breathed.
It didn't.
"Dad" I started, reaching for my mom's shoulder, "She's not breathing."
"She'll be okay sweetie, so will I and so will you...please just get out of the car and get help." Dad assured, grabbing my other hand. I turned back to him, staring deep into his eyes. In my mind, I knew I should listen to him, but my heart couldn't let me leave them.
"Daddy..."
"Mandy please"
Before I could protest I saw a face in the window beside my dad. It looked so familiar, but I couldn't quick figure out why.
"Mandy, go with him" Dad instructed and with the remaining strength he had he pulled me across the roof to the opened arms of the familiar stranger.
The stranger grabbed me and cradled me in his arms as he pulled me away. I couldn't take my eyes off the destroyed car as he brought me further and further away.
My father mouthed I love you, then he was blocked by the firefighters who arrived to get him and mom out.
"Shh Mandy...it'll be okay" the stranger whispered as he carried me to an ambulance. A paramedic took me from his arms and placed me on a stretcher. I stared into his dark chocolate brown eyes as I was lifted into the ambulance.
An air mask was placed on my face and I felt my eyes start to droop.
"I'm her friend, let me go with her please...she needs someone" I heard the stranger say before his face appeared before my eyes. He smiled slightly with tears in his eyes, and slowly petted my hair.
