One year later...

Wiping the bead of sweat off my head, I stood back and admired the photo frame I just hung up on the wall. It was still a little crooked, so I straightened it out and admired it again.

It was a picture of Tony and I on a Gondala in Venice. We were smiling at each other and my aunt caught it beautifully.

The photo hung on the wall surrounded by many other photos. Beside it was the graduation photo, and on the other side was Tony and I sitting in the backyard with Minnie and Burrito.

Our backyard.

We spent eight in Italy with my family, much to Heidi and Allen's dismay. They were definitely NOT pleased to hear that Tony decided to come with me, but they also knew he was following his heart.

Speaking of following their heart...Maya ventured back off to California, about two days after I had left. It didn't take her long to convince their parents once they heard of Tony's shenanigans.

Her and Nish came to visit about after three months, and we ventured on a mini road trip to Milan together.

After four months, Tony offered the idea of getting a house together. Luckily he brought it up at dinner and we discovered that my parents left me a savings with a substantial amount of money. My uncle didn't want to tell me until I decided if I was going to college or not.

I decided to, at the same school Maya and Nish attend for journalling. It's been something I enjoyed but never considered, so it was a good option!

We moved back and stayed with Maya and Nish until a week ago, when we were finally able to move in. It's a nice little blue house with a picket fence. It has a decent size backyard with lots of bushes and trees, perfect for Minnie who was brought back to us the moment we moved back in.

I know, she's a deer. And Burrito is a raccoon, but they're important to me and I'm glad to have them in our lives.

"Hey!" I heard Maya's voice call, followed by footsteps. I turned to the door as she appeared in it. Maya looked past me at the wall and smiled.

"That's looking great I love it!"

I nodded. "Thank you! There's just one more photo"

I looked down in the box at the photo and froze. It was one of my parents and I. We were in Italy when I was really young. I was smiling, sitting on my dad's shoulders as he held hands with my mom.

Maya noticed my change in demeanour and stepped forward. "What is it?"

She looked down and saw the photo, but without hesitation she bent down and picked it up. Holding it at arms length, she admired it with a small smile.

"Your parents were such amazing people," she commented. I simply nodded because the lump in my throat was preventing me from saying anything. She walked past me to the wall and shuffled a few photo frames around and placed it. She placed it in the center of all the photos.

"It looks perfect," I said quietly, smiling.

"I know, I'm the best," she said cockily, which received a laugh from me.

"C'mon though, " she said, grabbing my hand. "Tony's in the back cooking up some burgers and I am hungry!" I let her lead me out of the living room and to the back patio.

At the table sat their parents and Nish. Burrito and Minnie were sitting in the yard and it looked like Burrito was picking dandelions. Tony stood at the BBQ with an apron on that said kiss the chef that he purchased in Italy. He just "had to have it" he claimed.
