Chapter 2

Sunlight pierced the thin silk curtains of my room. I groaned. Mornings are not my favorite time of the day. The birds sing too happily and the sun is too bright. I slowly crawled out of bed. A warm summer breeze blew through the sheer curtains. I made my way to the bathroom to get ready for the day. I took a quick shower and got dressed in whatever I found in my closet. I then headed for the stairs leading to the dining hall.

"Oi. How come I had a huge pile of work while you two enjoyed a fancy ass royal wedding!"

That was what I heard as I slid down the railing of the stairs. It was only morning and someone was already being loud. I hopped off the railing when it ended and headed for the dining hall where the noise was coming from. I didn't want to walk in just yet so I peeked through a crack between the large maple doors of the dining hall.

"Shion, I'm sorry you couldn't go but think about it. If you had gone with us you wouldn't get any sleep," Mika calmly said to Shion.

"Ah," I thought. "So Shion is mad at us for leaving her here with her nii-chan and a pile of work".

Shion does a bunch of things for the queen. She and her brother, Ringo, are in charge of passing laws and keeping diplomatic relations with other kingdoms and countries peaceful. Shion is also Mika's right hand woman so she's pretty important. Ringo is also the royal vizier. I deal with economic issues and relations but I mainly focus on military. I am the commander of the Kadar army after all, which is one of the biggest military powers known.

"Now Shion," I cooed as I strolled into the dining hall, "You have important work that needed to be done for the benefit of the kingdom. Surely you don't want your home to fall to ruins because one document wasn't signed or rejected".

Okay. I think saying that must've caused a fuse to blow because next thing I knew, a butter knife zoomed past my head, nailing itself into the wooden doors.

"Says the one who dumped all her work onto me saying she has important business to do in the Hua Empire," Shion smartly retorted.

"Sorry about that," I replied nervously.

Well, I guess next time there's a party, I'll be sure to take Shion with me because if I don't, I think my head just might be the next thing that butter knife nails into.

"Oh (Y/N). I'm glad to see you're finally awake," said Ringo.

"Yup," I happily replied to Ringo.

"You have a game with Camus today so don't forget," Shion said.

"Psh. Of course I won't forget. It is a game with Camus after all," I coolly replied.

I quickly ate breakfast, grabbed my helmet, and waltzed out the door. I rode my motorcycle to get to Permafrost, which is the country Camus is the prince of Permafrost isn't that far from Kadar so I only have to drive for two hours. Permafrost is a beautiful country with its year round snow capped mountains and lush green forest. Camus is definitely the perfect image of a prince. He's always calm and rarely loses his cool. Plus he's good looking. Not hot and sexy like Ren nor is he cute like the prince of the Gisul Empire, Ai Mikaze. No. He's more of a handsome prince right out of a fairy tale.

I finally arrived at the gates of the palace. They opened up to a magnificent driveway littered with carnations. I pulled up right in front of the palace doors and surprisingly enough,  Reiji was waiting for me at the doors.

"Wow (Y/N)-chan. This is the first time you actually arrived on time," Reiji said teasingly.

"At least I came. I wasn't going to come this time because I lost last time and had to stay over here as a damn maid for him for a week," I complained.

Reiji laughed. "Well at least this time its a friendly game since you guys didn't place any bets".

"True," I replied.

Reiji let me inside the palace and led me to the room where Camus was waiting. The palace was just as lively as last time but this time I noticed the maids were bringing out a lot more food as if some important guest was coming here. This caught my attention so I asked Reiji.

"Yeah we have a guest here but I won't tell you who it is because that's a surprise".

"Wow thanks Reiji," I thought to myself.

We entered the parlor where Camus was waiting and saw the glass chess board sitting on the table, with all the pieces ready to be played.

"(Y/N), about time you got here. I thought I would die waiting," Camus sarcastically said to me as I entered the parlor.

"Haha," I said, "Let's just get this game started".

"Hang on (Y/N). I forgot to tell you that we'll be playing in pairs today," said Camus.

"Wait," I said ,a little surprised, "So who are our opponents?"

"We are," came the reply.

I turned to the door and found the two people I was least expecting to see. His "Royal Jerkiness" Prince Ai of the Gisul Empire and His "Royal Flirtiness" Ren. Ren strided over to the chair near the chess board and sat himself down while Ai leaned against his chair with a small smirk playing on his usually monotone face. I just stood there dumbfounded with my mouth hanging open

"Well. What are we waiting for. Let this game of chess begin," announced Ren, flipping his hair in an elegant manner.
