Maura's POV

"What we got doc?" Detective Korsak asks as I pull back from the body.

"Looks like a suicide except these wouldn't be here" I say pointing at the lower lines across the victims neck.

"So homicide" Jane sighs as she stands up. "Am I going to be able to spend any time with Casey?" i smile sympathetically, knowing exactly how she feels.

"Looks like its ours" I state, "But I won't know until I've done the autopsy" I pull the latex gloves off, after I do my routine inspection, with a snap. It looks like it was done by the same person who killed the first one but he was confident this time, like he knew how to make it look like a suicide. I don't voice my thoughts as I don't like to speculate.

"OK, do it in the morning, she ain't going anywhere" Korsak says as he calls it a night. I smile happily and wait for the coroner van to be fully loaded before heading home.

I rush inside out of the cold and find a note on my kitchen island.

Maura
Allie called me, her mom wanted her home so I had to get her.
Sorry. I had a great time tonight
-Jake

I sigh softly and throw the note in the bin before settling down on the couch with my favorite book and wine. I knew Jack would leave, I just didn't expect it to be on the same day that he gets back in town.

Jane's POV

I walk into my apartment and smile apologetically at Casey, who's layed out on my couch. I know he's waiting for an answer but I just don't know. I can't marry someone who loves his job more than his family. And Casey loves his job. He's chosen work over me before and I want a family. And I don't love him like I use too. I join him on the couch, watching a Red Sox game together and soon we're sitting, facing each other, talking.

"Was there someone else while I was away?" He asks suddenly, shocking me. It takes a few minutes or the shock to die down.

"Not really" I admit softly."I like someone, a lot but I don't think the feelings are mutual" I continue after he looks at me, confusion written all over his face.

"Who?"

"No one, it's not important, what's important is that-"

"Tell me, it is important" He cuts me off.

"No" I say, getting up and grabbing a beer out of the fridge. "They're already involved with someone so it doesn't matter"

"Janie please" He says softly, joining me in the kichen. I close my eyes and sigh frustratedly.

"Maura"
