Chapter 3

We got out while the gunner stayed on the gun, alert as ever.  As soon as I was out, I thought I saw someone look up from the side of the highway, which was a gentle slope, and I immediately dismissed the thought.... All I really cared about at the moment was Destiny.  She has to be okay, she WILL be okay...  

"Bale, do you think they're all right?"

"I'm not sure Nate." Nathan hated being called Nate here lately, because that's what his mother called him.  But, now she's gone... Bale spoke up again, "The gunner is gone... Goddammit... Yo, Lucian, we got another squad member KIA."

"I already knew." said the other soldier that was walking with us. I thought it was Luke? Oh, wait. Nevermind. 

"Get that door pried open, I'll help once its popped.", Bale after handing a crowbar to Luke, put his hand on my shoulder, "I'm sure they're fine, most likely just bumps and scrapes."

"Yea.... I hope so..."

"Knock knock ladies!", Luke said when a pull with the crowbar made a satisfying pop as the door came loose... Huh, just like Bale said, it popped... When Bale moved to help pull the door open more, I rushed to help while Will just stood there staring out in the woods. We pulled the door free finally to see the girls and one soldier, which is also female, sprawled throughout the vehicle, and I couldn't help but gasp. "Bale! Hurry. Let's check them!"

"Already on it", Bale climbing into the vehicle. "Lucian! Check the driver! I cant see him!"

"Yes sir!" I watched Luke go around to the side while also watching Bale move carefully inside the body of the overturned military vehi-"Um, sir?"

"Yes, Lucian???" 

"The driver is gone..."

"Damn...him too? This went horri-"

"No, um, sir... He's gone. As in disappeared..."

"What???? You're sure???"

"I am."

"Well this is just getting weirder and weirder... Hopefully he's just in the edge of these woods, but for now let's tend to the injured."
