Not your typical lovestory: Stefan and Caroline

Chapter 2

Alternate reality 1994
Bonnie and Damon found out very early on that they were in a snapshot alternate reality of Mystic Falls in 1994. They have been here for 4 months and the pressure is getting to both of them. They just want to go home but have no idea of how to make that happen. Then they met Kai, the psycho that killed most of his family and was banished here, this is his prison. He told them there might be a way to get out of here so now there is hope.

Stefan's car
Stefan and Caroline were driving back to Whitmore college, Stefan had a million thoughts going thru his mind as to how to pull this off and get Damon and Bonnie back. Then he looked to his left and smiled at Caroline and took her hand in his "I want to Thank you for coming with me. I don't think I could have done this without you." Caroline looked down at their hands and then at him and smiled at him "Stefan you don't have to Thank me. What are best friends for?" He smiled at her as they were pulling up to the dorm where she and Elena lived and just as they pulled up Elena came out and she looked upset "I wonder what's going on. Why don't you go on inside Caroline and I will be there in a minute." Caroline nodded to him and got her stuff and went inside.

Elena walked over to Stefan and looked at him with sadness in her eyes "I'm glad your back but I have some bad news. After I hung up the phone with you yesterday I got a call from the hospital telling me that Caroline's mother was sick. She has terminal cancer." Stefan was shocked by what Elena told him and he looked towards the dorms and thought about how Caroline was going to take the news. He looked back at Elena "I think I should tell Caroline the news. We are very close right now and she was there for me after Damon died and I really want to be there for her." Elena nodded to him as she agreed with him that he was the best person to tell Caroline about her mom.

Whitmore college dorm
Stefan watched as Elena left to go help Alaric track down Liv, Luke and Jo then he walked into the dorm and went to Caroline's room. She looked up at him and smiled "There you are. Where is Elena?" He walked into the room and over to where Caroline was unpacking her suitcases "She went to go help Alaric track down Luke, Liv and Jo. Um, look Caroline I need to talk to you about something and I think you should sit down." She looked at him and instantly knew he wasn't kidding, he has this look of sadness but of concern for her as well and she did as he instructed. Stefan sat down beside her and looked down and took a deep breath and then looked at her "Caroline while we were gone your mother collapsed at work and when they took her to the hospital Elena compelled the doctors and found out that she has stage 4 cancer. I'm so sorry." Caroline just sat there for a few minutes in shock. She couldn't believe the words that Stefan just said to her, her mother couldn't be dying. She slowly turned towards him with tears streaming down her face "Stefan I can't lose my Mom because then I will have no one left." Caroline said and then dropped her head and cried. Stefan's heart just sank because he knew what she was going thru. He reached out his hand and lifted her head up to look at him "Caroline you haven't lost everyone you still have me." She looked up at him and tried to stop the tears "I do?" He reached over and brushed away the tears from her face and looked at her "Of course you do. Caroline you helped me out so much these past few months and I don't know what I would have done without you so now that you need me, I'm here for you. I tell you what, why don't I take you to see your mom?" Caroline smiles and seems to cheer up "That would be so great." So Caroline and Stefan get their stuff and get in the car and drive over to the hospital.

Mystic Falls hospital
Caroline and Stefan arrive at the hospital and go to Elizabeth Forbes's room. Liz looked up as she saw them enter. She smiled and opened her arms up so she could hug Caroline "Oh my God Caroline your back. I'm so happy to see you." Caroline looked at her mother and the tears started flowing down her face and she ran into her arms "Mom I'm so sorry I wasn't here." Liz pulled back slightly and looked at Caroline and wiped her tears "Caroline your friends needed you and you were exactly where you needed to be." Liz looks over at Stefan I hope the trip was successful?" Stefan steps closer to them but still keeping his distance "Yeah it was. We still have some things to work out but we should be able to get Damon and Bonnie back." Liz smiled at them "That is great." Caroline turned to Liz "Do you need anything? Can I get you something?" Liz looked at Caroline and thought for a moment "Yes a cup of coffee would be great." Caroline smiled and stood up "I will be right back with your coffee." Then she turned towards Stefan and smiled at him and touched his hand as she passed by him before walking out of the room.
