PROLOGUE

I woke up to find blood all over me. Mikael forced me to drink blood and I went to go outside. As soon as I went outside I came back in. The sun had burned me! Niklaus and Rebekah were sitting in the corner so I joined them. I had no clue where Kol and Finn had gone, but they probably went to the tunnels where the sun couldn't touch them. There was blood on Rebekah and Niklaus too. We sat there and Esther came in. She handed us rings so we put them on.

"These will help you walk in the sun and we are going to burn vervain tonight." She told us.

"What happened?" I asked. "I am so confused."

"You're vampires now." Esther told us, calmly. "I will not watch another person I care about die. Kol and Finn are outside, preparing the fire."

We got up and Elijah, who had been hiding, came with us. I stepped outside and smelt blood. I bit my tongue and my fangs extended. I covered my face and they retracted. Rebekah, Niklaus and Elijah were having similar reactions. Kol hugged me tightly and broke my ribs. I winced as they snapped, but I felt them healing quickly.

It's a curious sensation, to turn again, but I liked it. I knew we were now immortal, it was a basic legend. The sun was already setting and the neighbours had locked themselves in the house. There was three foolish neighbours out, so I fed off one. I didn't take much, but Kol and Finn drained one and Niklaus and Rebekah drained the other. I left the third for Elijah and wiped my mouth. When they dropped the bodies they all felt extreme guilt. Rebekah started crying.

"How did you stop yourself, but the others could not?" Mikael asked me, curiously.

"I didn't want to take much blood. I didn't feel like killing." I told him. "It was difficult though."

"You all need to control yourselves!" Mikael shouted.

We were all standing outside. Our neighbours hung vervain out front of their houses and it burnt us. I figured that if I took vervain, eventually I would be immune to it when I drink it. We needed to be invited into their houses too. We were about to burn down the white oak tree because it was made of the only wood that could kill us. I lit it on fire and stepped back. The Originals and I watched it as it burnt to the ground. It was a leafless tree and it had vervain at the base of it. I could no longer go down to the lake because the field had vervain plants all through it and it hurt.

Eventually the tree became nothing but ash. I was glad it was gone, but I knew the witches would

I was sitting outside with Kol, Finn and Elijah when Rebekah came running out. She was sobbing and I had never seen anyone this upset.

"Mother's dead! She was killed by father!" She sobbed hysterically.

"How do you know this?" Elijah asked, worriedly.

"Niklaus watched him." She told him, sobbing

Everyone went inside and Klaus was kneeling over Esther. He looked distressed, but he wasn't crying like everyone else. I had become attached to Esther. Not as much as I had Henrik, but Esther had been like the mother I'd never had. Finn ran off and Kol kissed me before doing the same. We all went outside, Elijah and Rebekah sobbing. We had burnt down the white oak tree because it was the only type of wood that could be used to stake us. We buried Esther next to Henrik and stood in a circle, holding hands.

"We stick together as one... Always and forever." Rebekah said.

"Always and forever." Niklaus, Elijah and I agreed.

"Where do you want to go first?" She asked.

"I'm going to go and find Kol and Finn and when I bring back we should go over to Europe." I suggested, going to run off.

I used my heightened speed to get down to the lake from the clearing. This was the only way I could avoid the vervain. Kol and Finn swum to the other side of the lake. I wanted to try something. I jumped over the lake and landed in a crouch. Kol and Finn looked at me, impressed. Their eyes were red and I sat with them.

"The heightened speed, strength, hearing, eyesight and smelling is great." I said, trying to cheer them up, but most likely failing. "Don't you think?"

"Yeah, but we also have heightened emotions. I focused on not feeling sad and then I didn't. I didn't feel anything until I saw you." Kol told me.

"I hate what we are." Finn muttered, miserably. "I hate how we have to kill innocent people to live."

"We don't have to kill. All we do is drink their blood. You can learn to control yourself if you want control." I told him. "Just tell yourself to stop and pull back."

"We should be getting back now. I take it my siblings are in the clearing." Finn muttered.

Kol and I watched as Finn swam through the lake and walked back to Niklaus, Rebekah and Elijah. Kol sat close to me and turned my head to face him. Kol kissed me and then we both jumped over the lake and went to join Finn, Niklaus, Rebekah and Elijah.

"So where should we go?" Niklaus asked.
