she gets home at 11pm and walks into the dark, bottom floor apartment. as she walks through to the living room, the girl sees her little brother asleep in one of the rooms and she smiles at his serene face. she carries on and finds her dad sitting on the sofa in the dark, staring at a blank tv.

"you forgot to pay the television bill again didn't you?" she sighs, sinking into the tattered armchair.

"i just didn't have the money ree," her dad says, taking a swig from his beer.

"here," the girls says, reaching into her bag and pulling out a small roll of notes, "put this in your account."

"where did you get this from?" her dad asks, his brows knitted together in confusion.

"selling some of my old stuff down at the market. from what you'll have left over you'll be able to buy some more food."

"reese, i can't accept this," he says and puts the money back on the table, turning on the lamp and turning off the tv.

"dad, you have to," she says, looking down, "it's the only thing we've got right now."

"okay," he sighs after a while, "but i'm going to pay you back every penny, i promise."

but the girl knows he can't.

her dad stands up and walks over to her, placing his hands on her cheeks and kissing the top of her head.

"you're a great girl reese. now, leave the light on for ty, won't you? he'll be back from work soon."

she nods and her dad leaves the room.

searching her bag, the girl then notices the absence of her phone and hides her head in her hands. someone would've taken it by now.

but, as she slowly drifts off to sleep, she's unaware that bar boy has her phone and has his heart set on finding her.
