I get up happy as ever because in a few days it's summer vacation. I get up and go over to the bathroom. Once again, Hayes is hogging the shower.
"Yo, Hayes!" I yelled banging on the door,"Could you hurry up?!"
"Let me think, uh, no!" He yelled back giggling.
I bang on the door some more and finally he gets out.
"Bro, you got to calm down," he said walking by.
I roll my eyes and get in the shower. I let the hot water hit my back and started to relax. I felt all my stress just going down the drain with the water. I finished the shower and got dressed. I didn't feel like styling it today, so to hide this is atrocious mess I call my hair, I put a beanie over it.
I opened my window and it felt a little chilly for a morning in June. So I decided to wear a white shirt, a black skinny jeans, a red flannel, and white converse. I grab my keys, not even bothering eating breakfast because who eats breakfast anymore? Anyway, I go to my car, start it, and drive to Cameron's house. Cameron was sitting on his stoop, looking pretty depressed.
"Hey Cam, you need a ride?" I asked.
"Sure, why not," he said getting up.
He goes to the passenger side and opens the door. He slumps down in the seat.
"Bro, what are you so down about?" I said looking at him,"It's almost over, it's almost summer, where we can go to the beach, go to parties, and the best part is girls are both of those events."
"That's your summer," he said laughing,"My summer consists of not making any contact with anyone or anything, but my couch."
"Why are you so depressed?" I asked starting the car.
"I'm not depressed!" He yells,"Why do you keep asking that?!"
"Because the old Cameron would be going to beach, parties, and hook up with a girl all in the same day," I explained,"Now all you want to do is avoid everyone, including me."
He puts a hand through his hair and looks out the window. I can through the reflection that he was about to cry.
"Talk to me, man," I said taking his hand,"This the first time, I've seen you all year."
He sniffles and turn towards me. He took a deep breath and put a smile on my face, I can tell it was fake.
"Bro, I know something's up," I said giving him a look,"So there's no need to act like you're okay."
"I-I'm perfectly fine, Nash," he said looking away.
"You literally just fucking lied to my face," I said sarcastically laughing,"Do you take me as a fool?!"
"Yes, I do, Nash because you don't see the main reason why I'm this way now!" He yells back,"You know what I can deal with this anymore!"
He gets out of the car and starts walking. I get out of the car, and run in front of him, stopping him.
"Cam, I'm not a mind reader," I said angrily.
"Well, apparently you are because you know I'm upset," he said walking around me.
I stopped him again. I hear his breath hitch as I grip his biceps. He looks up at me, his eyes red welling up with tears.
"Why are you so upset?" I asked looking into his brown eyes.
He shook his head and looks up at the cloudy sky. He faintly smiles and laughs at the sky.
"You seriously don't get it," he said biting his lip still looking up at the sky,"You don't see the big picture."
"No, can I have some clarification?" I asked confused.
He looks down and laughs like there was something funny on the ground. He shook his head and walked around me. I stopped him once more.
"He's gonna hate me, he's gonna kill me, I could never live with myself," I hear him mumble to himself.
"Who's gonna kill you?" I asked snapping out of his thoughts.
He looks up and blushes, backing away from me. He looks so scared to even be seen with me. He took off running and went into the woods. I knew exactly where he's going. I walk deep into the woods and see our old treehouse, that we use have adventures in. I get there and I see him sitting on the roof of the treehouse. His knees were hugged against his chest. I climb up the ladder and just stood there.
"Am I allowed to join you?" I said getting his attention.
"That depends are you going to interrogate me again?" He asked leaning over to look at me.
"No, I promise," I said smiling.
"Fine," he said rolling his eyes.
He held out of his hand, I grabbed it, and he pulled me up. I sat next to him and looked around. I hear the crickets, as they play their songs. I see the sun peaking through the trees. I take a breath in taking in the smell of pine. Everything is peaceful until Cameron through a pile of leaves at me. I open my eyes and gave him a look.
"Oh, shit," he said jumping down.
I jump down after him and chase after him. He's pretty fast so I couldn't keep up with him for long. I look around and tried to listen anything out of the ordinary. I hear the sound of giggling echoing through the woods.
I see his hair peaking out of the trees, so I snuck behind him and put my hand on his shoulders. He screamed and was about to run away, but I tackled him to the ground. We wrestling for a while, but I pinned him to the ground and smiled at him.
"You're an asshole," he said breathing heavily.
I roll my eyes and kept him there for a few more moments. He was trying to get up, trying to move, to get out f my grasp, but he couldn't.
"You give up?" I asked.
"Yes," he said ashamed.
I let go off his wrists and he gets up. He looks at him longingly. I snapped my fingers, snapping him out of his trance.
"You want to skip school today and catch up?" I suggested.
"Sure," he said getting up.
We walked back to my house and watch Netflix all day long.
