~Hailey~
The next day was just as cloudy as the previous one as I entered the stadium-like lecture room and sat on one of the top rows away from everyone else. When Layla entered she didn't join me and instead went to sit with the rest of the girls on the front rows. They knew that on test days I liked to have space to myself, and had gotten the memo long ago that test days were 'leave-Hailey-alone' days.
This particular lecture room had medium sized windows which were incredibly high up, making it impossible to see anything outside except for the sky. It explained why it was frequently known as the 'test room' because it was harder for students to become distracted by the outside world.Preparing myself, I got out my pens and lined paper from my handbag before tapping my pen against the desk. At various intervals students piled in, chatting quietly amongst themselves; the air humming with nervous anticipation as everyone waited for our lecturer to enter.
A bit later Scott came in with a few of his friends from last night, giving me a small wave before sitting to the far right corner of the room. When they'd sat down, I received a text. Thinking it was from him, I hastily pulled my phone out and checked the screen.
Good luck, bitch. Although I bet you won't need it - L.Layla.
Quickly, I texted back a response.
Thanks. You too. Wish the girls luck for me XOXOAbout thirty seconds later she turned and winked. I almost laughed.
"Phones away and silence please," our lecturer said once he entered carrying a stack load of sheets.
I did as he asked; switching my phone off and placing it back in my handbag which was on the seat next to me. He began to explain the rules, and I became all jittery when he stated that the test would equate to 20% of our final grade, even though I already knew this.
The test was to be done in exam conditions --meaning silence; without any interruptions. Once he'd told us everything we needed to know, including which sections to answer and how long we had, he handed the tests out and gave those on the front seats papers to pass back.
A blonde kid with brown streaks in his hair a few rows in front stood up an handed me my paper."Thanks."
"You have two and a half hours," the lecturer told us as he watched the hands of the clock. We watched it with him, almost entranced. "Your time starts... now."
I read the questions over once then twice, before beginning to scribble furiously. Fortunately the answers coming to me easily enough seeing as I'd spent weeks of my spare time preparing for this test in as much detail as I could. Nothing had gotten in my way except for perhaps Scott a few times, and the occasional party.
When I'd answered my third twenty mark question I was relaxed enough to take a small minute break. Stretching my arms, I scanned the lecture hall and rested my gaze first on the girls then Scott. Only a few of the girls, such as Ingrid and Savannah (a ginger haired athlete who would occasionally hang with us) had chosen to take English as well.
Taking a closer look at them, it seemed as if Layla was picking her fake nails while the other two were paused deep in thought. Scott's head was bent down; much like it had been for the majority of the test and I gave a small smile.
By the end of the test I was relaxed but slightly tired; feeling accomplished.
"How did you find it?" I went straight to Layla the minute I'd left the room. We always talked about a test together after we'd completed it and I wasn't about to break that rule.
