Michael's POV

"Y/N, go out with me—" ...Too stiff, Mike.

"Hey, would you like to grab some ice cream?" Ice cream? Really, Michael? What are you, twelve?

"Y/N, if you'd be so kind, would you like to go out and have dinner with me?" Fantastic.
What are you? asking for a business meeting?

I let out a frustrated sigh, dragging my hands down my face. I have been up all night trying to figure out how to ask my dear friend Y/N out on a date. Look, I can write entire songs in my head, layer harmonies, come up with beats and instrumentals out of nowhere, dance until the sun comes up...

...but asking a girl out? Yeah, not my area of expertise.

Now I'm pacing back and forth across my room like I'm on the verge of collapse, trying to calm the storm of nerves building inside me. At this point, I'm surprised I haven't worn a path into the floor. Which is probably why I didn't even notice Jermaine standing at my door.

"Yohoo? Earth to Michael?" he says, snapping his fingers right in front of my face.

I jump slightly. "Yeah, Jermaine, what?"

"Man, I've been calling you for ages," he says, squinting at me. "And why do you look like you're about to faint." He points straight at my lips.

I blink at him. "Do I really?"

"Yes, don't tell me you've been dancing again till 3AM again, just eat your breakfast–"

"No, no, I already did eat," I said quickly.

"Okay? Then why are you sweating like you just got out of a sauna?" he shot back.

I paused and touched my forehead. Oh, that's... a lot of sweat.

Jermaine slowly crossed his arms, a grin spreading across his face as if he'd just solved a mystery no one else was even aware of.

"Ohhh, this is bad," he muttered. Before I could react, he casually walked into my room, dragged a chair over, and sat down, about to interrogate me.

He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, eyes locked on me.

"So..." he said, clearly enjoying every second of this, "who is she?"

I tried to give him a blank, mysterious look, but it came out more like a confused fish.

"Fine," I sighed, throwing my hands up. "I'm going to ask Y/N out."

"Oh wow, Y/N? So, what is it that you like about her?"

I rubbed the back of my neck, suddenly feeling a little shy.

"We've just always clicked, you know? Same humor, same vibe, same interests." I paused, smiling to myself. "She's my favorite person. And lately, I don't know. I've started seeing her as more than just a friend."

"Hmm, okay," Jermaine said, nodding. "I think you've got a good one, though."

I blinked at him. "Wait, so you like her? You think we'd, you know?" I made a vague gesture with my hands, like I was trying to physically mold the idea into existence. "Look good together?"

He raised an eyebrow at me, clearly enjoying this way too much.

"I've only ever seen you two as friends," he admitted, pausing just long enough to stress me out, "yeah, I think I see the potential."

I let out a breath I didn't even realize I was holding.

"But..." he added, dragging the word out just enough to make my stomach drop.
