Interview pt.2

"You know, it's still not too late... do you want to go back and enjoy the party? I bet they're waiting for you," you said, a little too excited to sound casual.

Michael smiled, that soft kind that always felt like it meant more than it showed, and nodded.

"This quiet time was everything," he said, glancing at you, "but hey— a little more fun wouldn't hurt, right?"

So the two of you made your way back... hand in hand. The party was still alive, music pulsing, laughter spilling through the air, lights dancing across the room like nothing had slowed down at all. But then—

"Well... well... well..." a voice called from behind. "I'd like to believe that 'interview' went real smooth."

You both turned. Chris Tucker stood there, wine glass in hand, grinning like he'd just watched the entire thing unfold in HD.

"Chris, I swear don't start," Michael warned, already half-laughing.

"Hey, from my angle?" Chris said, raising his glass. "That wasn't an interview. That was a whole 90s love story. Y'all just missing the soundtrack."

You laughed and right on cue, Janet appeared beside him, eyebrow already raised.

"Now hold on..." she said, sipping her drink. "Who is this fine-looking woman again?"

"Hello, Ms. Janet," you said, instantly a little starstruck.

"Hey, Dunk," Michael greeted casually.

Chris gasped dramatically. "Now wait a minute, is this the Janet Jackson? I gotta act right now!"

Janet didn't even blink. "Chris, I can smell the alcohol from here."

"That's because I'm having a good time, Janet!" he shot back, spinning slightly and nearly spilling his drink. Everyone burst out laughing.

You turned back to Janet, still smiling. "I'm Y/N. It's really nice to meet you—I'm a huge fan."

"Nice to meet you too," she said warmly.
"And please—call me Janet."

"So," Chris cut in, suddenly reappearing at your side like a talk show host, "how you enjoying the party, Y/N?"

"I'm loving it," you said. "I've been to industry parties before, but nothing like this. This is... another level."

You gestured lightly between them. "I mean, I'm literally surrounded by legends."

Chris froze. "Hold on, does that include me?"

"Of course!" you grinned. "I've seen all your movies."

He placed a hand over his heart. "See, this is why I like her."

"Chris," Janet said, already smirking, "let Mike talk to her."

"Oh! Right, right my bad," Chris said, stepping aside dramatically. "Go ahead, Mike. The floor is yours."

Michael laughed, shaking his head as he slid in beside you. You caught the faint scent of his cologne, clean, smooth... distracting.

Your eyes met, and just like that, everything else faded. The music, the chatter, the chaos, it all blurred into the background.
That quiet tension returned... soft, magnetic, impossible to ignore. Apparently, not impossible for everyone else either.

"Oop—are we interrupting a soulmate soft launch?" Janet said, casually sipping her champagne like she hadn't just exposed everything.

"Dunk," Michael said flatly, "please be quiet."
