The vacation helped more than either of them expected.
It wasn't magical.
It didn't erase the grief.
There were still moments when Yoongi became quiet after seeing families with babies passing by. Still nights when Seokjin woke up instinctively just to make sure Yoongi was beside him.
But slowly—
Things became lighter.
Little by little.
They spent their days near the ocean, somewhere peaceful and far from Seoul's noise.
Jungkook spent most of his time collecting seashells while forcing both parents to admire every single one dramatically.
"Daddy, this one looks like potato."
"That's literally a rock."
"No! It's potato shell."
And somehow, Yoongi laughed every single time.
Seokjin noticed it all.
The way Yoongi started eating better again.
Sleeping longer.
Smiling easier.
Even walking around on his own without Seokjin hovering two steps behind him.
It relieved him.
And terrified him at the same time.
Because part of Seokjin still feared:
What if I stop watching carefully and something bad happens again?
That fear stayed rooted deeply inside him.
—
On their last night before going home, Jungkook fell asleep early after tiring himself out at the beach.
Now only the sound of waves filled the balcony where Seokjin and Yoongi sat together.
Yoongi was wrapped in Seokjin's hoodie, knees pulled close to his chest while staring at the dark ocean.
For a while, neither spoke.
Comfortable silence.
Then softly—
"Hyung."
"Hm?"
"I think... I'm getting better."
Seokjin turned immediately.
Not because he disagreed.
But because hearing Yoongi say it aloud felt huge.
Yoongi smiled faintly while looking at the ocean.
"I still get sad sometimes," he admitted honestly. "Sometimes a lot."
Seokjin quietly held his hand.
"That's okay."
"I know."
Another silence settled between them.
Then Yoongi looked down at their intertwined fingers.
"You can go back to work now."
Seokjin's expression changed instantly.
"Yoongi—"
"No, listen first."
The younger squeezed his hand gently.
"I know why you stayed."
