Chapter 2
~beep beep beep~ ~ beep beep beep~ ~beep beep bee-
I hit the snooze button. Why was my alarm going off? Ugh. I roll over, and start to drift back to sleep... "ALECIA! You're gonna miss the bus!" What?! Oh, god. It's the first day of school... Wait, I'm going to miss the bus?
"CRAP! I'm coming!" I jump out of bed and throw on my clothes. Thank god I had the foresight to lay some out the night before. I double check I have everything in my bag. Did I finish my summer assignment? Ok, good. I sprint upstairs and wait by the door. "Come on, we're gonna be late!"
My little sister Juliette opens her door. "No, we're not. We have like half an hour 'til the bus gets here. Calm down." Huh? My dad opens his door upstairs. I hear him call out "Can you keep it down? It's like 5:30 in the morning!"
Oh. Right. I told my sisters to wake me up urgently so I wouldn't sleep in. I sigh, and sit down in my favorite chair. I have half an hour to kill. May as well eat breakfast for once.

I went through my day, excited about having so many classes with friends. When lunch came around, I grabbed my usual sandwich and chocolate milk. I found Ariel and we sat down at our table by the door. As we sat down, talking and laughing, I saw two tall boys with dark hair pass our table. Was that the guy who bumped into me? Wow...
"Al! You won't believe what happened!"
"Oh, um what?"

I passed lunch with Ariel and we talked. Then I walked with her to choir. "I'm going to miss you, bitch!" She got into the higher level audition-only Chamber Choir without me. It's ok. I'll try again for next year. And I have other friends in Women's Choir.
"I've gotta go, I have bio. See you next period!"
I waved goodbye and opened the red doors to my favorite class. The room is large, with high ceilings. There are three steps, well tiers, going up from the front. There were chairs randomly scattered about on these tiers. I set my bag down on one and went to the piano in the opposite corner at the front. I sat down and messed with the keys for a bit. I don't really know how to play, but just messing around can be fun and pretty too.
"That's beautiful" I hear really close to my face. I jump up and turn around, and stare directly into a pair of the bluest eyes i had ever seen. There he is, the boy with the raven hair.
"Ah! Ah. Ah. What? Um, thanks? I... Who are you? I mean, I've never seen you before, uh, hmm" Wow. I'm an idiot. I blushed and looked away, realizing I was staring.
"Sorry! I'm Phil Lester. I'm an exchange student from London. Well, I lived in London before I came here."
"Oh, um, welcome to Stanwood Washington, USA. Uh, I'm Alecia Jones. What grade are you in?"
"I'm sixteen, a... Sophomore?"
"Yeah. Cool, I'm a sophomore too! I'll be sixteen in Decemb-" ~RING!~ "Oh, the bell. You'd better get to class..."
"Yeah, I was just looking for a teacher when I heard you and came in. I'm looking for the drama classroom? A student informed me that this building was the Performing Arts Center, but I'm not quite sure where..."
"Oh, Mr Sims's room, the drama room! I can show you, it's just down this hallway," I hastily got up and walked quickly out of the doors and down the narrow hallway. I checked quickly to make sure he, no, Phil, was following me. I blushed again as I nearly tripped, and opened the door to the large classroom. "In here, and there's another door on the other side, next to the door to the outside, and the girls bathroom."
"Thank you." He smiled at me. "Did you realize you put on an accent just there?" ~RING!~ "Ah, is class starting? Sorry. See you later ok?"
I flushed red yet again and mumbled something affirmative, then ran back to the choir room.

I am not very outgoing, and too be honest, socially most of my confidence comes from Ariel and sometimes my other friends like Emily or Sevrin. That encounter with Phil left me as an embarrassed pile of quivering sludge in the back corner of the choir room. Anya came and sat next to me, and then Mr Ronning came in and started class. At this point I would usually forget about it, and immerse myself completely in my favorite class, but I couldn't get Phil out of my mind. Was I just missing the giant excited presence of Ariel? Or was something... different with this guy? I didn't know. Thankfully, it was the first day of school, so I didn't miss much while I was off in space. The bell rang and I came to. I gathered my stuff and made for the door.
