I heard Carl's footsteps following me as I ran through the forest.
I quickly hid behind a tree so that Carl couldn't see me. I heard him searching for me, twigs and leaves cracking loudly with every step. I sighed silently. "Wow. I was right. He is a bad tracker..." I thought to myself.
"Carl..." I began, closing my eyes for a few seconds, my back pressing against the truck of the tree, then opening them back up. "I know you're following me..." I paused for a moment. "Again."
"And you're going the wrong way." I continued on what I was saying as he searched for me.
"You knew?" I heard him ask. I heard a huge crackling from some twigs. I sighed silently, rolled my eyes. I shugged a little, even though he couldn't see me.
"You're very loud..." I said, leaning my head against the tree. "Could you go back?" I asked him. "To be honest... You scare me."
"You shouldn't sneak out by yourself... Two people just died." I heard him say.
"Ok... This game is getting too boring..." I thought. I came out from behind the tree.
"Oh come on..." I said, shifting my weight to one side, with my lips in a form of a tiny pout, also tilting my head to the side slightly. "People will always die... You know that?"
I saw Carl look around a little. After a few awkward seconds of silence, he looked back at me. "We should go back..." he muttered, loud enough for me to hear.
"Why?" I asked, tilting my head slightly.
Carl looked around again. "What do you do out here anyway?" He asked, looking into my eyes.
I looked down slightly, then back up at him. "Same thing as you." I said with a small smile.
I began to run into the forest again, hearing Carl following me. I jumped over some logs until I heard a walker. I slowed down my pace as I got to a tree. I signalled for Carl to stop, and he did. He went beside me, watching. I pulled out a kitchen timer and set it for 30 minutes. I threw it as far as I could, the timer landing near the walker. The walker stopped, turned towards the timer, and limped towards it. I gave out a small laugh and I looked at Carl. He was smiling slightly, so I smiled back.
We ran some more until we were out of breath.
I saw a log and sat down in front of it, Carl sitting beside me.
"We're supposed to be out here... We're supposed to feel like this..." I said, staring at a tree not too far from here.
"I don't want to forget..."
I paused for a moment, then I went on.
"And... Running makes me feel better." I said with a small chuckle.
I saw Carl watching me from the corner of my eye. "I can't forget..." he started, his deep voice rumbling ever so slightly. "I dream about it. Being in the forest... With them..." I saw him bite his bottom lip again. I still stared at the tree, a small concaved tree that could might fit one person. "I do too..." I muttered.
"Ron's a good guy." I heard Carl say, looking at me.
I smiled. "He is..."
"Does... He know you come out here?"
"No, I... He wouldn't understand..." I said, moving a strand of hair from my eyes.
Carl decided to change the subject. "Why do I scare you?" He asked me with a small hint of a chuckle as I was digging into my backpack, pulling out a knife my mom gave me.
"I don't know, you just do..." I said, picking some of the wood off with my knife.
I felt his eyes on me as I kept picking off the wood. "Cool knife." He commented on my knife. I gave out a small sigh.
"It was my mom's..."
"What happened to you, before you got there?" He asked.
I looked at him. "It doesn't matter..." Was all I said.
"It does. I know... Something bad has happened to me too..." he replied before I heard some walkers. I stood up and Carl stood up with me.
"We need to go. Sounds like a lot..." I heard him mutter.
I ran to the tree I was staring at earlier and went inside. Carl took his hat off and went in after me.
I felt our bodies touch and I looked out of the tree, hearing lots of walkers.
I looked at Carl, and he was looking out of the tree as well. My lips moved closer to his ear.
"It's their world..." I whispered quietly in his ear. "We're just living in it..."
I felt Carl's hand on mine where I held my knife.
I saw that he was leaning in towards me. I felt my body getting hot and a blush creeping up on my cheeks.
"Is he trying to kiss me?" I thought to myself.
I didn't lean in, so he pulled away. He looked out of the tree again and I chuckled softly. I went to his ear again.
"Cool... You're afraid of me too..." I murmured.
