It's a long read, but it's worth reading till the end
..........................
The stadium lights were still shining
The crowd was still screaming
The cameras were still following every movement
Yet for Shubman Gill, everything felt painfully quiet
GT had lost
He stood there during the presentation, answering questions he barely heard. Smiling when he was supposed to smile
Nodding when he was supposed to nod
Inside, he felt hollow
A captain,
A batter
A leadere
Tonight, none of those titles felt enough
All he could think about were the moments he could have done better
One more boundary
One better decision
Just.... One different field placement
Maybe then things would have been different
Maybe..
And maybe was the cruelest word in cricket
By the time he finally climbed onto the team bus, exhaustion had settled into every bone of his body
Nobody was talking much
The atmosphere was heavy
Shubman sat beside the window and stared outside.
His phone buzzed several times.
Lots of Messages, Calls, Notifications
He ignored them all
Because none of them were from the person he wanted.
Ishan
For some reason he hadn't called him
Hadn't texted him.
Hadn't even opened their chat
He didn't know why
Maybe because losing made him feel vulnerable
Maybe because he didn't know what to say
Maybe because hearing Ishu's voice would make him realize how badly he wanted to be held right now
The bus stopped outside the hotel.
Shubman grabbed his bag and stepped down
His shoulders felt heavy
His chest felt heavier
Then he saw him
Standing near the entrance
Hands tucked into his hoodie pockets
Messy hair
Soft smile
