What did I do to deserve this.... I mentally groaned. The teacher put yet another problem on the board. You know just because i'm usually labelled a nerd doesn't mean i actually 'like' school. That's an understatement.....I despise school with a burning passion. As I finished off the last problem I thought of excuses I could make up to not come to school tomorrow. As annoying as school is i wouldn't skip just because i wanted to. If i could i'd do it every other day but tomorrow's not a usual day to me. My parents.....
The bell cut off my thoughts, a good thing indeed. I don't think anyone would actually come to comfort me when I start tearing up over my dead parents. I started packing up like everyone else. I slung my backpack over my right shoulder and quietly exited the classroom. I'm sure no one even noticed. I'm not directly in the invisible league on the school's line of popularity but when i try, i may as well be. As to make my point any clearer, a tall guy bumped into me almost making me stumble to the ground. I looked up at the boy that crashed into me, ready to tell him off but all those thoughts flew out of the window when i saw who it was.........Adrian O'Conner. Lovely.
"Sorry, didn't see you there," he said calmly not even making eye contact and scurrying off on his own. I watched him disappear in the crowd.
I sighed as i looked at him retreating and muttered, "I doubt he even knew my name."
"Who doubted who knew your name?" The wind suddenly flew out of my lungs as a giant elephant literally pounced on me.
"Oomf!" I shrieked as I tried to steady myself while my arms were flapping around like a duck. I heard silent chuckles but thought nothing of it, I was more interested with the elephant at the moment. There's only one person in this school I know who would intentionally try to kill me. My only best friend whom I finally managed to shrug off my back.
"Cece what the hell, were you trying to kill me?" I nearly shouted as I finally stood straight up and turned to her. I fixed my mildly disheveled clothes.
She smiled innocently and shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know what you're talking about. I just came here."
I rolled my eyes at her. She will be the death of me. I turned around and started heading to our lockers which were right next to each other. Coincidence? I think not. I heard her footsteps indicating that she was following me until she caught up and stood right in front of my path.
"Hey i'm not done with you. What happened back there? I saw you talking to Adrian. OMG did he actually talk to you. Aaaaaaaaaahh! He noticed you, I got to start planning the date and your outfi...."
"Woah! Hold your horses Ce, he didn't notice me, like that would ever happen, so can we please go now?" I replied as I tried to side step her. But she just had to step to the side and block me. Again.
"Well he would if you show people the real you. C'mon Lils why not?" she complained as she tugged on my arm.
I groaned and stomped my feet. She asked me this like a million times and it's always the same answer. "No, why should I? If when i'm existing like this they totally ignore me I don't want to know what they'll do if I change back now okay. " I tried to compromise with her. As she was visibly deflating I took the opportunity to pass her and I was hoping she wouldn't try to stop me.
1.....2......3.....
"Where do you think you're going Liliah?"
Ugh! So close yet so far. I was about to turn but yet again she stepped in front of me. I was silently already guessing what she was going to say.
"I'll let it slide just this once Lils, only because I know what tomorrow is. But you're not completely off the hook. Got it?"
She didn't even let me answer before she grasped my arm and started pulling us to our lockers. I was barely paying any attention as she made me think of the anniversary tomorrow...... the anniversary of my parents' murder.
Great! Now I already won't be able to pay attention for the rest of class. Thanks Cece.......not.
But oh well, that's life right.
