My sister ran her fingers over my scars
And looked up at me
With tear-filled eyes
And she whispered
"Did you do this to yourself, Jess?"
And all the tears
I'd held back
In that moment
Ran down my cheeks
I couldn't even reply
I just sat there
Shaking
Trembling
The sobs wracking my body
I grabbed her hands
Small in mine
"Please"
I whispered softly
"If you ever want to hurt yourself..."
"Don't."
She was sobbing now.
I wanted to hold her
Pull her to me
And promise
That she will never get hurt
But the pain
It's inevitable.
