Scarlett

You know, feelings really were a bitch.
I mean one day you're fine, living life unbothered and the next you're completely intrigued by a guy who consistently infuriates you. Totally fair, right?

I considered it a miracle that I had gotten through my first two classes without dwelling too much on the thought of Flynn Harris or the words exchanged earlier, but as I made my way to break I felt all my earlier emotions rising up. I had several, and I mean several girls approach me to let me know they were voting on my behalf for the auction, which quite frankly I did not understand.

Truthfully, I had little idea as to how the auction worked in the first place. I was determined to find out though, especially since I found out through Tim that all my friends voted for me to get a date with Flynn, which was a whole other discussion in itself.

I set off towards one of the auction tables set up in one of the larger hallways, making my way around people waiting in line to vote. I noticed a familiar face working the table, a small, blonde girl with bright blue eyes and impeccable style, and walked over to her.

"Hey, Alli." I called, waving to get her attention.

"Scarlett!" She greeted excitedly, passing some papers on to the girl on her left before walking over, "How are you?"

She reached out for a hug, which I quickly returned.

Alli was the twin sister of one of Spencer's best friends, Caleb, and we hung out occasionally whenever we both had free time. We weren't super close, but she was a good friend to have and a great person to talk about almost anything with.

"I'm good, just have some questions about this whole auction thing." I replied, shifting my bag higher on my shoulder.

"Of course! I had a feeling you'd be coming around sooner or later, you know you're the talk of the school right now." She laughed, nudging my arm with her elbow.

"Ugh, don't remind me." I groaned, "I don't even know how this happened, or how people can even vote for me."

"Oh it's super easy!" She responded, waving a hand in the air, "All they have to do is come up a fill out a card which specifies who they are asking for a date with then put a name at the top of the card. First vote is free but if you want to place multiple you just pay a dollar."

"People are paying for this?" I asked incredulously.

"Most of the votes we've gotten for you are not paid," She laughed, "A lot of people just come up and vote for you once then leave. The majorities who pay are voting for themselves to win a date."

"Wow. So people are going out of their way to do this." I breathed.

"Don't be so surprised Scar! Everybody knows that you're literally the only girl Flynn talks to so obviously people are going to be intrigued."

"I don't know, I still don't get it. Why are people so concerned with the lives of other people?"

"Because it's high school Scar." She giggled.

Just then I felt an arm wrap around my shoulders, making me freeze on the spot.

"Scar!" I heard a male voice drag out my name enthusiastically.

I looked to my right to see none other than Alli's twin brother, Caleb, smiling down at me.

"Jesus Caleb you nearly scared me to death." I replied, placing a hand over my erratic heart.

Caleb and Alli were fraternal twins, however they shared the same blonde hair, blue eyes, and ecstatic personalities. Other than that though they couldn't be more different, especially when it came to school involvement. Caleb wouldn't be caught dead volunteering for the school whereas Alli thrived as a member of student council.
