Much to my dismay, things settled down after we told Kayla about my discovery, and the next few days turned out to be pretty uneventful. I spent the weekend having a movie marathon with Spencer, who was finally done pestering me about my dating life, thank God, but other than that things were relatively calm.

After Flynn's sudden appearance at the mall, I started to see more and more of him at school; he walked me to classes then to lunch for the next couple of days. I found it weird to say the least, but every time I tried to question him about it he would simply brush it off as him trying to be nice, which I didn't buy of course. However, despite all the secrets, I had to admit that I did enjoy his presence. I knew it was a bad idea, but I still felt drawn to him, and I figured that as long as nothing reallyhappened between us, it was fine, right?

By Thursday, I realized that things could only go back to normal for so long until they returned to our now usual chaos. The minute I stepped out of Spencer's car, Kat ambushed me before I could even properly shut the door behind me.

"Finally! Are you purposefully avoiding me or have you just not bothered to check your phone?" She asked, practically bouncing with energy as she stood in front of me, hands propped on her hips.

"I haven't checked my phone, why what's going on?" I carefully shut the door as Spencer walked around the car, probably to see why on earth Kat was freaking out so much.

"Tim's back today, and turns out he wasn't actually sick!" She exclaimed as I vaguely recalled that he was absent the past two days, claiming that he came down with something. I wasn't close with him so truthfully I didn't really notice his absence, but Kayla seemed genuinely worried for her friend, he hardly missed days unless strictly necessary.

"So he was faking it?" I asked, still confused.

"Exactly!"

"And why is this big news?" Spencer cut in, sharing my perplexed look.

"Because the dude is messed up, and I mean really messed up. He looks like he either got in a really bad accident or got jumped, it's a rough sight."

"Wait, seriously? Is he okay?"

"Yeah I guess if he's well enough to come back to school." She replied, waving off my concern, "But I just saw him for a second before he disappeared into the office, hopefully Kayla knows more."

"That's rough. Hope he's okay." Spencer replied, shaking his head.

"Yeah, we should go check with her anyways, she's probably beside herself about the whole thing." I added, mildly wondering how extensive Tim's injuries were.

Kat nodded in agreement and we set off towards the school, Spencer splitting off to meet with his friends who were gathered around Caleb's car. We vaguely chatted about an assignment of Kat's that was due today while we searched for Kayla, more than positive that she was most likely at her locker. The hallways seemed eerily quiet; almost everyone was talking amongst themselves but in rushed voices, like they didn't want to risk being overheard.

"This is weird." I muttered under my breath, glancing at Kat for confirmation that she caught on to the anxious feeling lingering all around us.

"Seriously, feels like we walked into a funeral service." She took a glance around at the huddled groups of students, observing.

I spotted Kayla hunched over her locker, the door partially blocking my view of her, but I could tell she was distressed. Her dark hair fell in ribbons around her like a curtain, obstructing her face from others who peered curiously at her, making me angry. People are so damn nosy.
