When Katniss walked up the steps, and stood on the stage, she looked terrified. "How old are you Katniss?" Effie asked, pointing a microphone at Katniss.
"Twelve" Katniss whispered.
"My, my, you must the youngest tribute we've had for a while! So, Katniss Everdeen is our new tribute!" Effie pointed out "Lets hope she returns home" This made me shiver. 'She has to come home, she absolutley has to.' I thought 'why Katniss? Why?'
"Time for the boys!" Effie announced "Let's hope he is nice towards young Katniss here" She winked at Katniss. "Here goes!" Her hand was moving around the bowl of names, pausing regularly, then moving again, she took a good few minutes to pick a name. My fingers were crossed, I didn't want to be picked, but at the same time, I wanted to be with Katniss. Effie grabbed a name. All my fingers and toes were crossed. "Peeta Mellark!"
"Nooooooo!" Katniss yelled as I walked up to the stage. I least I will be with Katniss I thought.
"So, judging by Katniss reaction,you two know each other?" Effie asked us, while addressing everyone else.
"Yes, we're friends" I mumbled, not looking at Effie, or anyone else. Especially Katniss. 'How were we meant to go in the Arena together, and get killed by someone our age or by each other?' That was the thought running through my head.
"My" Effie exclaimed "this is going to be a tough month for you isn't it!?" WE both chose not to respond to this.
Effie announced "District 12, here are your tributes for the 70th annual Hunger Games. Wish them luck, and let's hope we get a victor this year"
I turned to Katniss and whispered "She says that every year!" Katniss giggled.
Effie, along with Haymitch, our mentor, and a couple of guards, we were taken to the Justice Building, where our families came to say goodbye.
