Route 3 stretched ahead with school fences on one side, grass on the other, and the Pokémon Egg held carefully against my chest. After everything that happened after Striaton, I tried to tell myself this road could be simple.

The Egg shifted faintly in its carrier, warm and quiet beneath my hand. Alice walked beside me, checking the strap whenever the path dipped. Pikachu sat on my shoulder, ears moving with the breeze. Oshawott marched near my feet like the road had been waiting for his heroic entrance.

Cilan walked behind us with Pansage and Dwebble, describing the route's morning air as having a bright, grassy flavor. Iris pretended not to listen while Axew watched from her hair. Golly kept the map open, and Eve stayed close enough to Alice that protection never became control.

A flash of electricity cracked across the grass ahead.

Several wild Pokémon scattered from a broken patch of road. Patrat sprang from his Poké Ball without being called, tail snapping a warning. Blitzle stood on the ridge, mane flashing in sharp patterns that made Pikachu lean forward.

Pikachu's meaning came alert but not frightened. "Electric warning. It is not attacking first."

Another pulse struck the ground near Oshawott, who yelped and hid behind my leg. Blitzle stamped its hoof, angry that we had not understood quickly enough.

I raised my hand and stepped away from the unstable patch. "We hear you. You are warning everyone away from that road."

Blitzle's sparks softened for one breath. Then it dashed past us, circling the cracked ground with enough speed to blur its stripes. Its electricity was not random. It flashed in repeated bursts, guiding wild Pokémon away before the road collapsed.

Cilan looked at the pattern with interest. "Communication through electrical rhythm."

Golly nodded while marking the map. "Route hazard confirmed. Blitzle is maintaining a safety perimeter."

I smiled despite the danger. "Then let us help."

Blitzle turned toward Pikachu, eyes narrowing. Its meaning snapped like static. "Yellow sparks. Strong sparks. Do not take my warning."

Pikachu answered with a small controlled spark, not a challenge. "Different sparks. Same warning."

I stepped forward slowly. "Pikachu does not replace you. If you join us, your signal stays yours."

The broken patch was worse than it first looked. Rain had eaten under the road until the top layer hung like a thin crust over mud and hollow stone. A child, a small Pokémon, or even one careless step from Oshawott could have sent the whole section down.

That made Blitzle's anger easier to understand. It had probably flashed and dashed all morning while people called it aggressive, when all it wanted was for slower creatures to stop walking into danger. I knew too well how warnings could sound like attacks when no one listened.

Blitzle circled us again, sparks snapping near my shoes. I did not dodge backward. I stepped sideways, showing I understood the boundary instead of challenging it. Pikachu did the same, keeping his sparks low so Blitzle would not feel crowded by another Electric type.

Alice guided the Egg carrier away from the cracked earth, and Snivy used Vine Whip to pull a loose branch into place. Cilan and Pansage arranged stones as markers while Golly made a temporary warning sign from a flat board and bright cloth. Even Iris helped by keeping Axew from running ahead to see the flashing mane.

For the first time, Blitzle stopped trying to shock us away. It watched every person and Pokémon take a piece of its warning seriously, and the sharpness in its eyes changed into something more uncertain.
