"It's kind of a long story...."
"Lala, you can tell me anything."
"I know it's just that... never mind..."
"What... You know what, no; you don't have to tell me." His voice sound a little irritated and hurt, I have to tell him, he deserves to know. He started to walk away, leaving me standing in the ally
"WAIT!!" I yelled out to him and started to run toward him "I'll tell you, but you have to promise me something..."
"Anything" he said sounding relieved
"Don't take pity on me, and don't leave me..." I said kind of scared.
"I won't, I promise." He pulled me into a hug; I breathed in his scent then unwillingly exhaled it back into the atmosphere.
"Okay... so remember when I disappeared? Yeah uhm well my parents checked me into a psych hospital... It was around the time you met Marcus and Steven, y'all started to hang out more and more. I was left alone and fell into a state of depression. I didn't know what else to do and one day Marcus and Steven were making fun of me, you were sick that day. They said that the only reason you were even my friend was because you had pity on me, and being the 9 year old I was I believed them, they called me names, called me a loser and a loner. I went home crying that day and pretty much every day after that. One day when we were in the 7th grade, I was about 12, I went home and was sick of all the torture. We hadn't spoken in years, I had no friends and figured no one would care. When I got home, no one was there; I went to the kitchen and got a knife..."
I said all that without choking up until now, I couldn't talk anymore. All I could do was pull my sleeves up and show him... I had over 30 scars on each arm...
"You did... this?" He asked but I knew he already knew the answer, he stared to trace his fingers over my scars...
"I was there for 3 years, I got home last year. It only took Marcus 3 months to figure out who I was..."
"Valerie..." He tried to talk but couldn't form the words.
"Jose..."
We both stayed silent for a few minutes, neither of us know what to say.
