"Call 911 Joe" I say to Joe and he grabs his phone and leaves the room. I hug Zack and his heavy breathing continues.
"Zack please" I say and he snuggles his head into my chest.
"Your having an asthma attack. You have to use your inhaler. I know you dont want to but you need to in order to get better Zack" I say and he doesnt move. I rub small circles into his arms while I wait for the paramedics to arrive. Joe walks back in the room.
"Did you call them" I ask and Joe nods. I run my fingers through Zacks hair and he starts to shake.
"Zack its ok the paramedics are on the way" I say and he shakes his head No. He didnt want the paramedics help. I rub his back for a minute or so and the paramedics arrive. They walk into the room and I lay Zack down. He holds my hand and still struggles to breathe.
"He has a back injury correct" The paramedic says and I nod. The medic tries to put an oxygen mask on Zack but he puts his hands infront of his face. The medic gives Zack a shot and he falls asleep immediately. They puts the oxygen mask on him and his breathing slows down.
"So what exactly happened" The medic asks me.
"So he said he was done being treated like he was special needs and started crying and eventually started breathing really heavily untill eventually he stopped talking and I sat on his bed and sat him up. I tried to give him his inhaler but he refused to take it. I tried to get him to take it a few more times and he still refused. I held him in my arms and he starts shaking so I told him dont worry the paramedics are on the way and he shook his head no because i guess he didnt want help. Then I rubbed his back and waited for you guys to come" I explain to the medic. Joe is really pale and his eyes are full of fear.
"Ok since he only had an asthma attack we are going to leave him here but stay until he wakes up" The medics say and I nod. Joe stand up and walks over to Zacks nightstand and put his phone down. He looks a bit wobbly.
"Joe are you ok" I say and he nods.
"I feel a bit light-headed though. I should be fine" Joe says and sits back down. The medic takes off his gloves and walks over to Joe. He puts his hand on Joes head.
"You feel a bit cold" The medic says to Joe. He walks over to his medical bag and get a warm cloth.
"Lay down" The medic says to Joe. He lays down and puts his hands in his pockets. The medic places the cloth on Joes head. I walk over to Zacks closet and grab a light blanket. I walk over to Joe and place the blanket on him.
"Do you have any parents in the medical feild" The medic asks and I nod.
"My mom is a nurse and my dad is a firefighter. Zacks dad is a paramedic and his Mom is a nurse. I basically grew up in the medical feild" I say and the medic smiles.
"So you know a lot about this huh" The Medic says and I nod.
"Ya how did you know" I say and he points to Joe.
"You knew that when someone is cold you have to put a warm cloth and a very light blanket on them. I saw you going through the closet to see which was the lightest" He says and I nod.
"So let me ask you this. What is one thing we didnt get for him that we need to" The medic asks and points at Joe. I walk over to Zacks closet.
"A pillow" I say grabbing a pillow and walking back over to the medic. I hand him the pillow and he puts it under Joes head.
"Very good" The medic says and smiles. Zack mumbles and moves his arm a bit but doesnt full wake up.
"You might be here for a while. Hes a heavy sleeper" I say and the medic laughs.
"My names Pete" The medic says putting his hand out for me to shake. I smile and shake his hand.
"Its nice to meet you Pete. Im Maddie and thats Joe" I say smiling and pointing to Joe.
"Nice to meet you too" Pete say and smiles. He grabs Joes hand very lightly and Joe begins to shake his hand.
"Feeling any better" He ask Joe.
"Not really. I still feel really lightheaded. Not as much as before though" Joe says and Pete sighs.
"Im guessing its probably just the trauma and shock of seeing your friend like that. If he start to feel anything else let me know" Pete says and Joe nods. I sit next to Joe and hold his hand.
"Are you guys dating" Pete asks and I shake my head.
"No were just really good friends" I say and smile.
