"Get in Mads," My father tells me.
I nod my head, sending my pastel purple and blue hair flying everywhere.

I climb in to our little black jeep and my father starts the engine.
My father had just gotten fired from his job at the grocery store, so he had applied for a job as a teacher in New York and gotten it.

My father starts driving the jeep and then off we are on our way.
The drive out of Pittsburg was quiet.
My dad didn't get radio so we had no music to listen too.

I stared out of the window, hoping to get there soon.

We finally arrived in New York, we were just driving along to get to the crappy little street that will be called my home.
We were moving into an apartment building, not an amazing one either.
As we pulled up to the building, thoughts caressed my mind as I saw a short-ish blond girl and a tall brown haired girl walk out of the building.
I wanted to call out to them, so at least I could make a friend before school starts, but I was too scared.
They did sit there though, talking and having a great time. I wish I had friends like them.

My father and I climbed out of the jeep, which means all eyes on us.

The blonde girl didn't seem to care, but the brown haired one seemed to read me like a magazine.
She looked like a happy, bubbly, rainbows and butterfly's person.

But blondie, she looks dark, mysterious and an awful lot like me.
"Maddie are you paying attention?" My father asks.
"Huh?" I ask looking up at him.
"Let's go."
I follow my father to the apartment building but f course he had to talk.

"Hi girls!" He says happily, I don't understand why he's acting weird, he's always so sad.
"Hi sir!" The brown haired girl cheers.
"What do you want or need?" Blondie asks.

"How are you today?" My dad asks, striking up a conversation with the girl.
Me and the blondie stood there awkwardly.
"So is this where your livin?" She asks me.
I nod, not wanting to speak.
"Cool, me too. It's just me and my mom," She sighs.

I nod my head.
"Just me and my dad," I say pointing to my father.
"Nice," She says.

I nod my head.
"What school do you go to?" I ask.
"John Quincy Adams middle school."

"Oh cool, me too. My father is teaching there on Monday," I tell her.
She nods her head.
"I'm Maya, by the way."
"Maddie, but call me Mads for short."
"This is my best friend Riley," Maya points to the girl.
"Well, Maddie, let's get going," My father says.
"Bye Maya, Riley, nice meeting you," I say before entering the dusty building.
