Two weeks, Fallon thought when she opened her eyes. It’s been two weeks today.

Even though she was awake, she didn’t plan on getting out of bed. After her worthless trip to Hell earlier in the week, she didn’t know what to do next. She didn’t want to do anything either. She didn’t want to eat or read or watch TV or talk to her friends when they called. Fallon didn’t even want to get out of bed or get dressed. She’d gone from being unable to sleep at all to sleeping all the time, but she didn’t mind. In her dreams, she got to see Lucian and be with him. It was waking up that ruined everything for her so she tried to do that as little as possible.

Fallon groaned at the sound of a knock on her bedroom door. Either her mom took that as an invitation to come in, or she didn’t care that she wasn’t welcome because she barged into the room.

“You are up,” Gwen said with a hard edge in her tone. “Of course there’s no reason you shouldn’t be since it’s almost noon.”
“It’s summer vacation. I’m supposed to sleep in.”

Gwen mashed her lips together. “Yes, well, we both know that has nothing to do with you sleeping away your life lately,” she countered as she moved to open the mini blinds. “And that ends today.”

“What are you doing?”

“I’m helping you rejoin the real world. Your friends are waiting for you in the living room, and you’re going to go out and have some fun with them.”

Fallon narrowed her eyes. “What friends?”

“Daphne and Ava are here to see you.”

“They should’ve called first.”

“They’ve been calling all week, but you won’t take their calls.”

“That should’ve told them something.”

“It did. It told them they should be worried about you so they came to check on you. Now, you’re going to get up and get dressed and go out with them, and that’s an order.”

“What if I don’t?”

Gwen gave her a sweet smile. “Then you can spend the day with me.”

That was all the motivation she needed. Fallon dragged herself out of bed and began rifling through her drawers for clean clothes. She waited until her mom left before she changed out of the same pajamas she’d worn for the last three days and pulled a pair of clean Capri pants and T-shirt over her fresh bra and panties. Being in clean clothes did make her feel a little better, but that didn’t mean she was in the mood to be interested in her friends.

Fallon didn’t even glance their way when she sauntered into the bathroom to brush her teeth and pull her hair into a haphazard pony tail. She really should’ve showered or at least washed her face, but she didn’t want to listen to her mom bitching about making her friends wait too long for her. Then again, it would’ve served them right for coming over without even asking if she wanted to see them.

“There she is,” Gwen sang when Fallon shuffled into the living room.

Daphne and Ava each offered her a brilliant smile, but it didn’t melt any of her irritation. “So, are you ready to go?” Daphne asked.

“Go where?” Fallon asked.

“Who cares? Just go out and have some fun, and I’ll see you when you get back,” Gwen suggested, and Fallon snorted.
