Monday morning, Fallon finally got her first taste of normal when Lucian came to pick her up for school and he rang the bell. That afternoon, things were only going to get even more normal when her mom took her to the doctor to get the stupid cast off. She couldn’t wait to be rid of the thing for good.
“I’m sure I don’t have to say this, but we have to be careful,” Lucian said.
“You mean Griffin and I have to be careful not to give our secret away.”
“No one but us and Sim knows the truth about me and Griffin, and we have to keep it that way.”
“I won’t give the secret away.”
“This isn’t going to be as easy as the two of you think. You’re going to be inches from each other and your bodies will be screaming to touch and you’ll have to resist.”
Fallon swallowed. “I know, Sin.”
“Knowing and doing aren’t the same.”
“You’re not mad about us being soul mates and…”
“Having sex?” he finished when she let the words trail off.
Fallon could only nod.
“You know I’m not mad,” he said, and she believed him. “In order for us to be the most powerful and fulfill the destiny of the triad this is what has to happen, and I’m okay with it now.”
“I don’t think I could be okay with you being with another girl no matter what the reason is.”
Lucian smiled as he pulled his car in front of the school. “I’m not your problem,” he said as he turned to face her. “Griff is the one who will need to be with other girls to help keep our secret.”
Jealousy coursed through her veins. She knew it wasn’t fair to want both of them for herself, but the thought of Griffin touching another girl made her skin crawl. Soul mates weren’t supposed to share each other. Didn’t his body belong to her now?
As soon as they got out of the car and began walking toward the heart of the campus, Daphne and Ava rushed to greet them. Daphne threw her arms around Fallon.
“I heard about your house,” Daphne said. “I’m so sorry I didn’t call you sooner, but we just got back last night.”
“It’s okay,” Fallon assured her. “We already got a new place, and it’s much better.”
“How was the rest of your vacation?” Daphne asked.
“It must have been pretty good. She’s glowing,” Ava pointed out, and Fallon’s face flushed.
“It was okay,” Fallon lied.
Ava gave Lucian a sly smile. “I get it. You can tell us later.”
Fallon started to tell her there wasn’t anything to tell, but the bell rang and Ava took off toward the south hall. Since she had class in the north hall, Daphne walked with them. Fallon welcomed the distraction of Daphne’s chatter about the fabulous ski trip her parents took her on. It kept her mind off what she was about to face. There was no ignoring it when they parted ways and Fallon and Lucian entered their first period class. Griffin already sat in his seat, and he offered Fallon the same smile he always did.
“Hey,” she said as she dropped down next to him.
Griffin grinned at her. “Hey.”
