See, nobody’s perfect.

Except for Nate.

Obviously, I was wrong, because I thought we had put the whole ‘taken’ thing behind us.

Well, I was wrong. Again. What else is new?

“Um.”

“And who am I taken by, pray tell?”

“See, you have a very obsessed- er, I mean devoted fandom and I consider you taken by them because if you started dating someone then you might not spend as much time on your music which would totally suck because I love your music and I listen to it every night to put me asleep and if you stopped making it it would freaking suck. Not that I didn’t love Rachel when you guys dated, cause I did, she’s like my idol, after you guys of course, but I’m just saying.”

Yeah.

Word vomit, much?

Nate looked a little confused and amused.

Heheh, that rhymed.

“Um… Scarlett…”

“Yes?”

“… never mind.  Do you want to exchange numbers?”

He looked shy. Aww.  He was blushing, too! Adorable.

“Yeah, sure.”

So we exchanged numbers.

“I’ll drop you back off,” he offered sweetly.

I shook my head. “Nah, that’s okay. I can get home.”

He smiled heartstoppingly.

“Okay. Bye!”

“Bye!”

And there I was, stranded in the middle of New York.

Why in hell did I turn down his invitation? WHY?

I groaned and rested my head in my hands.

“Um… are you okay?”

I looked up. The girl from earlier (remember? Waitress? Flirting with Nate?) was standing there.

“Fine, fine. Just without a ride.”

Her eyes widened in recognition.

“Oh! You’re the girl from earlier! I’m really sorry for, you know.”

I waved a hand. “S’alright. We’re not even together.” Sadly.

“Oh. Did you just blurt it out?”

This was actually said nicely. I know, I’m shocked too.

“Yeah. It was really embarassing.”

“Oh, my god, I’ve been there. It was humilating.”

“I know! And I thought we moved past it, but when the others left, he brought it up.”

She sucked her breath in through her teeth. “Lame.”

“Yep.”

“My name’s Fern.”

“Scarlett.”

“One question: are you a fun. Fan?”

“YES! Those guys in there?”

“Yeah?”

“They were fun.”

She screamed.

I giggled.
