Technology

Technology.

I hated it. Yes, you read it right. I hated technology, which was ironic (because I was using technology to type this) but it is no surprise that I am made of ironies.

Why do I hate technology?

Technology made me feel compulsive. Sure, technology helped in advancing the world, curing once thought incurable diseases and assuring that more people understood each other but there was something about technology that made it so irresistible, mostly the part which involved social media. Technology made me feel out of control. It seemed as though that every fibre of our being seemed more interested in the lives around us than our own lives instead.

'Oh, he went out to dinner with his girlfriend.'

'Oh, the market went down by two percent.'

And the worst part was 'Oh, she had shrimp for dinner.'  Why am I interested at what you ate last night? You probably already shat it out this morning.

I never had much self control, so technology made me feel impulsive because every moment just made me want to pick up my phone and check the same few apps I did two minutes ago. Guess what, nothing changed! But that doesn't stop us from refreshing the page a few times.

Ever since technology was invented, everyone was so hyped and convinced that it was for the better good. I mean, there are its advantages (again, like diseases and all that) but it doesn't make up for the lost time you spend on your phone when everyone else is having a nice dinner, talking about things that actually mean something to them. Are you listening? Do you pay attention to them when they tell you their boss yelled at them or that they may have overcooked the pasta you eat?  Yes, I am talking about your parents. They probably need more of your attention than the heart button on Instagram does.

Snap out of it.

Nothing feels better than going days with your phone turned off, knowing no one can get in touch with you. It feels like a little resort, without having to pay its price. Isn't that why you go on holidays, to escape from the troubles of reality? Is it, isn't it? Then why are you always picking up your phone when the troubles usually come from them.

Maybe the number of likes on your profile picture intrigues you but the number beside the thumbs up only increases your ego and who actually likes an ego? Or maybe there is something addictive about pouring your emotions on a computer screen instead of telling someone who actually cares. Well, if you are so afraid of showing your emotions, why are you writing them out?

Be brave, adventure the god damn universe without your phone. Without a camera. Without technology. Find out who you are, not who you double tap on instagram.

There is a world out there and you choose to be on your phone.

Doesn't that say a lot about you?

Doesn't that say a lot about me?
