Lalna watched Nano with suspicion, he had stopped talking five minutes ago and she still hadn't noticed, just staring into the distance. Whilst Nano did tend to get distracted, this level of distraction was new, and an entirely different kind. Normally she'd interrupt him, not ignore him. How would they ever get anything done if his tutee just stared into the distance every single session they had? It was getting ridiculous. He'd have to find out what was distracting her fast, for her sake. She had expressed discomfort at still having to be tutored a year later before, so he was trying as hard as he can to get her up enough grades for it to stop, but he couldn't if she wouldnt listen.

Lalna sighed. "Nano?"
"Hmm?"
Was she messing with him? He honestly couldn't tell. He waved his hand in front of her face. "Nano? Earth to Nano?"
She didn't even blink. This was ridiculous.
"Nano!" He almost yelled and clapped his hands in front of her face, she yelped, nearly falling out of her chair.
Nano panted, clutching her heart, glaring at Lalna in a way that would have made him tremble a year ago, but now just made him feel strangely fond of the small girl"God Lalna, you can't just do that to people! I nearly had a heart attack!" She huffed
"Well I wouldnt have had to if you'd been listening, I stopped talking about five minutes ago."
"I was listening! I was just..." Nano sighed "Sorry Lalna, I'm just a bit spaced out today-"
"You don't say" he grumbled
"What were we doing again?"
"I was helping you with your maths homework. Algebra."
Nano groaned and thumped her head against the table. Lalna could sympathise.

It happened again at least twice more that week. And three more the next week. On the second time of the week after that Lalna realised this was a serious problem, what had Nano so distracted? It just wasn't clicking with him, the worst part was it was probably something really obvious. But he soon had a plausible theory and it was all because of a story.

"Yeah, Lalna totally had a crush on Rythian in primary." Xephos divulged with a grin
"What? Seriously? They hate each other!" Nano gasped, leaning over the table. She wasn't usually much for gossip but any information she could use to get back against her tutors teasing would be valued
"No I don't! No I didn't! Xeph how could you!" Lalna gave Xephos a kicked puppy look, and their only response was to grin and continue talking.
"Oh, yeah. That's why Rythian hates him. He didn't know how to deal with it, he'd talk to me and 'dew about him constantly-" They continued
"Yeah! It would be all about how terrible he was and then he'd slip something about how soft his hair looked or some shit" Honeydew chimed in, grinning a shit-eating grin.
"You're both the worst" Lalna grumbled, burying his head in his hands to hide his blush
"'His hair looks so soft Xeph, how pretentious, how do you think he gets it like that, what would it feel like, I bet it would be fluffy' and then he'd just trail off " Honeydew continued excitedly. Lalna just laid his head on the table, signing heavily
"I'm dead. Lay me to rest." He complained
"Oh hush you big wuss" Nano said, patting him on the head " We all did embarrassing things in primary school"
Lalna grumbled in protest but it was cut off by Nano pushing his entire fringe into his face. He blew it off his face to glare at her, but it fell straight back down.
"Cheer up friend, we'll stop if it bother you that much" Xephos said calmly
"We will?" Asked Nano and Honeydew in sinc
Lalna sighed "This is going to be hell."

The next tutor session Lalna was so prepared to be teased mercilessly that he was surprised that Nano was staring into the distance as had become the usual. And then it clicked, the metaphorical light bulb above his head lighting up brightly enough to blind a few hundred people. Nano had a crush, looking back he had no clue how he didn't see it before. Constantly distracted, always staring of in a certain direction, with the occasional sad sigh? All signs of an unrequited crush, he knew, he had gone through them all first hand. But maybe Nano would have more luck than him, because unrequited crushes sucked. Maybe he could help. But he couldn't just up and ask who she had a crush on, she would just deny it.... Maybe this would be more difficult than he had thought.
