By the time they reached the next blockage, nobody even looked surprised anymore.

That was the part Measi hated.

They had gone from being shocked by danger to expecting it. From reacting to traps to walking into them already knowing they were probably there.

The road ahead was destroyed, pieces of wood and debris scattered across the path, another carefully placed obstacle waiting for them.

Eugene crouched down, studying the ground.

"These tracks..." he said slowly, following them with his eyes. "They would indicate they not only have people, but some big-ass toys and capabilities."

Abraham stared at the mess ahead.

"What it indicates is we are neck-deep up shit creek with our mouths wide open."

Measi almost looked at him.

Almost.

Because as much as she hated admitting it, Abraham wasn't wrong.

They weren't dealing with a group that was improvising.

They were dealing with someone who had resources.

Someone who had time.

And then the sound came from behind them.

A scream.

Everyone turned.

A man dropped from above, his body swinging as the chain around his neck tightened. The group froze, weapons immediately coming up.

Aaron stepped forward.

"I can try and break the chain."

Abraham immediately stopped him.

"Don't."

Aaron looked at him.

"I can try."

Measi looked up.

The angle was bad.

The movement was worse.

Her rifle was already in her hands, but she knew before she even aimed.

It wasn't possible.

Not without risking everything.

"It won't work," she said quietly.

Aaron looked at her.

She hated the disappointment in his face.

"Even I cannot land that shot."

He still wanted to try.

Of course he did.

That was Aaron.

He always believed there had to be another way.

"I can try."

Rick looked at the situation, then at the road ahead.

His voice was quieter.

"It won't work."

A pause.

"And we need the bullets."

Measi looked away.

Because she understood.

Because she hated that she understood.

The man above them struggled as the wooden structure around them was suddenly set on fire.

The flames spread quickly.
