I enter to see a room full of heads turn towards us. All male. "What were you two doing down there?" A guy asks, he obviously can't see me.
"Nothing much, just saving a supermodel in distress," Maxi says grabbing my hand gentily and draging me past himself and Jesse, into the view of the other lifeguards. Their mouths open in awe.
"Guys, close your mouths, you'll catch flies,"I joke, releasing all the tension in the room.
"Your the girl from the pool, yesterday," one of them says. He has blonde hair, blue eyes, a tan and a muscular build. He looks quite young, maybe 18 or 19. I nod. "That was me," I say.
"I'm Harrison, " he says offering out his hand. I step foreward and shake it.
"I'm Madilyn, if you didn't know that already." I say sarcastically, hearing chuckles coming from all directions.
"I guess we should probably introduce ourselves, so in that case, I'm Reidy," another guy says. He has light blonde hair, blue eyes, a light tan and he has a lean build. He throws out his arm and I shake it smiling.
"I'm Deano," another guy says. He has brown hair, blue eyes and a lean, but muscular build. I shake his outstreched hand.
"I'm Gonzo," says the next guy. He has dirty blonde hair, dark blue eyes and a muscular build. I shake his hand.
"I'm Matt Dee, " another guy says. He has black hair dark blue eyes and a lean but muscular build. I shake his hand.
"I'm Chappo,"says a guy with light brown hair and blue eyes. I shake his hand smiling.
"Well its so nice to meet all the people, who save lives as their day jobs," I say smiling at all of them.
"Its pretty cool to meet a supermodel."
I chuckle. Reidy pushes a spare wheelie chair over to me, while Maxi and Jesse go to get chairs for themselves. We sit in a disfigured oval, some guys sitting by the desk , some by the door and some just spread out wherevers free.
"Do you guys work here everyday?" I ask.
"No, some of us only work part-time and we move around the three beaches in the area, Bondi, Bronte and Tamarama." Deano replies.
"So, I'm guessing you have a lot of lifeguards," I say while mentally counting them. "Since there is 8 of you here."
"This beach is the biggest of the three and the most popular, so we have more lifeguards on duty here." Gonzo says intelligently. "How many lifeguards patrol the other beaches then?" I ask.
"We currently have Whippet, Mouse and Max patrolling Bronte and Kerrbox, Dunno and Harries patrolling Tamarama." Chappo says.
"We should call the boys in Bronte and Tamar and tell them how much their missing out." Maxi says grabbing his radio and passing it to me. He shows me how to turn it on and what to press to speak. Everyone goes completely silent as I begin speaking.
"Bondi radio to Bronte and Tamarama, this is Madilyn Deyes speaking from Bondi's watchtower. Now for your weather, watch the swell as it will be rising towards lunchtime and keep a close eye on swimmers. The rain is due to come towards lunchtime and clouds will stay throughout the day causing light outbreaks of rain. The wind will shift slightly with offshore winds pushing up the beach and with the tide going out will compress into dangerous rips throughout the afternoon. The swell should range around a high 16-17seconds. The tide should start going out at 2 o'clock. Fresh offshore winds will reach about 36km/h, reaching perfect surf conditions before and during the morning to midday. The winds will pick up to about 40km/h towards the afternoon. The winds will fall again in the late evening. Have a great day. Bondi to Bronte and Tamarama." I lift my finger off the button and wait patiently for a reply of some sorts. I can see all of the guys staring at me. "Where did you learn that," Maxi askes as I spin my chair around to face them all.
