Chapter 5.

You know the feeling when everybody is counting on you. They put all their faith and hope in you, waiting for results. When I used to surf I had so much pressure on my shoulders. My dad, my coach, my fans. I would strive to impress them. That's what pushed me to always win. My coach used to say to me, 'When life gives you lemons, you take the lemons, you squeeze the lemons in life's eyes and continue focusing on surfing,' but what really should have been said was, 'When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. You enjoy that lemonade and then you appreciate life's lemons.' I can really count up how wrong he was, but we all make mistakes and mine was letting myself feel the pressure and not appreciate surfing for what it truly is.

I run up the beach to the rhino, with Maxi and Jesse behind. I'm secretly hoping we can get a ride back up to the tower. All that surfing was pretty tiring , considering I caught almost all the waves.

I reach the rhino before the others, but they soon follow suit. Harrison is no longer on the roof, but sitting in the back seat. Reidy has a shocked expression on his face, I wonder why. (note the sarcasm) Gonzo looks more scared than shocked. Harrison looks excited, a smile going from ear to ear.

I dig the bottom of my surfboard into the sand, letting it stand up without my touch. Maxi leans his against the rhino, while Jesse plonks his on the ground next to mine. I dust the sand off my hands and look up to Reidy's voice.

"Who knew you could surf like a pro," he says jokingly.

"Yeah, but I seriously thought you guys would figure it out sooner," I say in a lively tone.

"You're Madi Deyes?" Harrison asks, completely bewildered. "I seriously thought Reidy was kidding."

I try to hold in my laughter at his comment but fail majorly. My laugh isn't like anyone else's. Its like the sound you would get if you stood on a hiccuping cat's tail. The guys look at me strangely, but begin laughing as well. We probably look like idiots, but it's nice to have a bit of serenity from time to time.

Once the howling is over and we all have our breath back, Gonzo begins to speak.

"So you definitely are Madi Deyes the international surfer, who beat John John Florence in the Hawaii Pipe Masters and who has won loads of international titles," he says, putting emphasis on some of my big wins.

I give a small chuckle, "Yeah that's me." I thought they would figure it out sooner. Madi and Madilyn, can you get any closer? I guess they didn't recognise me at first.

"Are you ever gonna go back into surfing full time?" Maxi questioned. I thought about it. That exact question had been eating away at me for months. I couldn't form a logical reason on either sides. There was a part of me that couldn't bear the thought of surfing again, for Josh's sake. But there was an even bigger part of me asking was I happy to not even try.

"To be honest, I don't really have an answer to that one," I state, trying my best to hold back the sadness. Nobody really knew what conflict I was feeling. Either way, I was going to disappoint someone. I mentally listed out pro's and con's in my head. If I didn't go back to surfing I wouldn't be happy, but if I did I would disappoint loads of people. It was something I had to think about.
