I was just checking out my book and I realized I missed a really important topic! Sure puberty and getting your period is a big deal, but so is talking about it with your parents! I will be saying parents loosely because I know that not everyone has parents, some have legal guardians or some just talk to one parent instead of the plural parents. But I'm going to says parents for short. I know that not everyone is as comfortable with their parents as I am. In this chapter I am going to bring up several methods that you could go about doing this. By the way if you would like me to do a chapter on convincing your parents to let you use tampons then comment or PM me.

Method 1: Being straight up. A lot of people don't feel comfortable with this but I recommend this the most, it's a lot easier than beating around the bushes. Just sit down and say "_____ I need to talk to you. I got my period." I suggest talking to your mother (or a female guardian) first but if you don't have one then that's fine. If you don't have anyone to talk to you can talk to your school guidance counselor, sex ed teacher, or anybody that you trust.

Method 2: Leaving a note. I don't really recommend this, but I know it does work for some people. Just writing down a simple "Hey ____, I got my period, can we talk more about this" or a "Hey ____, I got my period, can you pick something up for me at the store?" could be what works for you. As I said this isn't for me, but only because I am more of a face to face person.

Method 3: Sending a text. Once again I don't really recommend this, but I know it does work for some people. Sending a simple text asking to talk more later or for them to pick up some pads or tampons at the store is great if you don't feel comfortable discussing it. But just know you will have to talk about it some day.
