A Merman's Wish

As I swam up to the surface I could see lights coming from a nearby dock and started towards it. When I broke through the waters calm surface I could see the form of a girl walking down a flight of stairs heading towards a small boat lit up like a light house.

 "Are you Winter?" I asked the girl.

 "Yes I am, and who you are?"

 "My name is Caspian, I'm am one of Prince Oceans..." 

"You're one of Oceans older brothers aren't you?" She said as she jumped into the boat.

 "Yes I am. Do you have a moment?" I asked. 

"Sure! Climb in." She said as she took a step back. 

"I'm fine right here." 

"Are you sure?" She asked.

"Yes, I'm sure." I said as she got out of the boat and sat on the edge of the small dock.

"Then what can i do for you your highness?" She asked her blue eyes shining in the moonlight.

"I came here to tell you to leave Ocean alone. He is putting himself in danger coming to talk to you, and we cannot allow him to get hurt he's a prince and he is needed by our people. You seem like a smart girl I'm sure you understand." I said as i turned to leave.

"Do you trust Ocean?"

"Excuse me?"

"I said do you trust Ocean, because if you did then you would know that he wouldnt be coming to meet me if he knew i was dangerous. So do you trust him?" She was staring at me as if she were staring deep into my soul. Her eyes were enchanting i could look at them for days at a time.

"Its not him that we dont trust its you." I said coldly. I was ready to leave and i didnt understand why i couldnt stop looking into her eyes. She smiled then and got up.

"They say a mermaids song is captivating, that when sailors hear them sing it drives them to their own deaths. You havent looked away from my eyes yet and that tells me that you are very susceptible to such magic." She said as she got into the small boat and sat down.

"What do you mean?" I asked as swam closer to the boat.

"I wont say anything until you get into this boat with me, and dont worry i wont hurt you." She smiled kindly at me as she stretched out her hand to me. I took it and she helped me up into the boat.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." She stared at me with those eyes of hers. Eyes that seemed to follow my every breath.

"Tell me what you meant by saying that i was susceptible to such magic." I wanted to leave, every fiber in my being was telling me to leave and to never come back, but i needed to know. I wanted to know.

"I'm witch and like the magic in a Mermaid's voice i can use that ability in voice and eyes. I like to use it in my eyes more it's not easily detected like it is in your voice and it's also more effective. I said you're susceptible to such magic because you are weak minded, and weak minded people are easy to fool." She said as she leaned back and folded her hands over her stomach.

"You wanted me in the boat so you could catch me didnt you?" I asked angry with myself for allowing me to be so easily fooled.

"I told you I'm a witch. If I wanted to capture you I wouldnt have asked you to come into the boat and I would have captured you by now." She stated calmly as she looked at me through narrowed eyes.

"You're right you would have." I calmed down a little.

"You can go if you like, that's all I wanted to say." She stood up and got out of the boat.

"Wait!"

"Yes?" She looked back at me her eyes still shining in the moonlight.

"Do you care about Ocean?" I dont know why i asked that, but there was something about her that i guess i just needed to know.

"Yes, i do. He is my friend and he saved my life." With that she turned and left, and i got out of the boat and swam home. That girl is an interesting character. It's no wonder Ocean likes her so much, but to love her... I think Ocean needs to rethink that one. As i swam home, i was so lost in my thoughts that i didnt even notice the spiral of bubbles floating to the surface, if i had i would've noticed Ocean's transformation into a human and he never would've put him him and that girl in danger like he did.
