Kirstie's POV

"Kirstie! Hurry up! You're going to make us late!" Mitch said, running toward the bus stop with Kirstie on his tail. "Mitch!! Calm down! The bus isn't even here yet, and it won't be for another five minutes! SLOW DOWN!!" I called out. It was the first day of sixth grade and Mitch was estatic. I know what you're thinking.. yes, most kids are definetly NOT excited to go to school, especially if they are the new kid. But Mitch Grassi was different. He was always excited to meet new people, try new things, do the impossible... He was definetly strange for his age, but it was a good kind of strange. Me and him had met earlier that summer at the playground down the street from my house, and immediately hit it off. He had moved here,to Texas, all the way from North Carolina!I found out that he only lived two houses down from mine. We met EVERY day before school by the oak tree in the middle of the neighborhood to walk to the school bus in the morning.

"Mitchell! I'm Serious! The bus doesn't even get - OOF!" It was at that moment he finally slowed down. "Kirstie, are you okay?!" He yelled, running back to me while picking up the contents of my backpack that had scattered down the road. "Y-yeah. I'm-I'm fine." I said, holding back tears. I wasn't going to cry in front of a boy! Are you kidding?  "Kirstie, your arm!" He said after a loud gasp. I looked down to see my arm was completely bent in a way no human could bend it on purpose. That is when I lost it and the pain caught up to me. "I-I think it's broken!" Mitch said. Just then, a couple walked over interuppting their morning walk. "Here, use my phone and call your mother." Said one of the men.  "Thank you, Sir." Mitch said. The other man bent down and tried to hold my arm in place while I got up. I Didn't know they were a couple at first because I had never seen a gay couple before. It wasn't until later that year that I really knew that the same gender could be together.

I got home and eventually went to the hospital. Mitch was with me the whole time. He helped me pick out the color of my cast. It was bright pink. He was even the first one to sign it, and that made me happy, but I also felt terribe. "I-I'm sorry you missed the bus, Mitch." I said with my head down. I knew how excited he was. "Are you kidding? I would do anything for you, Kirst." He said with a smile. It was at that moment, I knew....

I had a crush on my best friend.
