I couldn't believe anything right now. Eric was dead! Gone, forever. I didn't really think about this until now, I was mostly focused on getting away from him, the Tall Man. I was to scared for anything to make sense while I was running, the blur of the once beautiful and gleaming nature meant nothing, I just had to get away. Now I don't know what to do, I can't speak to my parents, the cops won't believe me, what about Eric's parents? Would they understand that I was not some stupid kid playing a practical joke? I had to try, maybe they could go into the woods and check? I don't know. I went downstairs with little bits of adrenaline pumping through my veins and picked up my bike from where I had thrown weeks ago, the sun shone on the garage floor, basking it in yellow glow. I started to pedal down my road, slowly making progress to Eric's house, his house was all wooden, and painted a bright white. His house always seemed to shine any day of the week, it always seemed to me like they repainted every week, but thats just my perspective. I arrived at their house and threw my bike down by the sidewalk, and then walked to their door. Eric's mom opened the door before I could knock, she had grown used to me coming here so she just started a habit of letting me in.
"Why hello there David!'
" Mrs.C, I have to talk to you guys about something."
"Well? What is it?"
I could see the smile fade from her face as she saw how serious I was.
"Come with me."
She hurried me into the living room and told me to sit down. Once she left I heard her yelling for Eric's father, John, to come downstairs.
"Yeah, what is it Martha?"
He sounded pretty annoyed to me. Martha didn't say anything to him, she just escorted him to sit in the room with me, and then she sat down herself.
"David has something he would like to say" She paused for a moment before gesturing me to tell them what I knew.
"Eric, something bad happened to him."
"What!" Martha looked surprised. She was probably expecting me to talk about my parents or some other subject, nothing bad ever happens to Eric.
"Eric came over one day and said he wanted to go into the woods, so I went with him, and then we saw a man that didn't have a face!"
Martha looked concerned and confused.
"And then he grabbed Eric and he... He killed him."
Martha gasped, if I had not added in the "without a face" part, I could see this just being a normal murder. But.. He had tentacles and his face was white and... It was to much to comprehend, I stopped my brain in its tracks so I could think clearly. Martha and John still had their mouths wide open, staring at me.
"Eric! My boy!" She started to sob and John soon picked her up and brought her upstairs to talk. I was left in the living room, on the verge of tears, when I thought of something. Maybe if I got Eric's parents to come with me to the police office, they would believe us, maybe.
I silently told myself to sleep on the idea, even though it was a given what to do. I was about to get up to get my bike when I heard someone run downstairs, I heard John yelling Eric's moms name. I wondered what happened up there! Then I didn't I have to wonder anymore, I knew what happened. Martha thought I hurt her son, at least, thats what I thought since she was pointing a kitchen knife at me. I slowly got up and backed away,
"You, You hurt my son!"
This woman was crazy! Why would I do that!
"Why? Why? Why?"
She was in tears. That was when I made my move, I tore away from the knife point and swung around Martha so I had a clear view of the exit, I pushed her wrist away from me, cutting my arm in the process. As she bent down to grab the knife I saw John out f the corner of my eye. I saw a silver glint by his hand, realizing he had gotten his gun, I put my hands away from Mrs.C and stepped backwards. Mrs. C Picked up the knife and pointed it to me again, this was sick.
"David, you..." He didn't seem to be able to finish his sentence, but I knew what he was going to say because he put his finger onto the trigger. This was it. I dashed and ducked my head so I couldn't be aimed at easily, I heard the loud gunshot and the whizz of the bullet past my ear, I twisted John's wrist so that he would drop the gun, he id and I bent down to grab it. Mrs. C rushed me with the knife while John took his hold on my neck, I elbowed him in the kidney so he would fall over and lose his grip. Just in time to, Martha was about to plunge the knife deep into my lung but I dodged the sudden attack, Grabbing her waist as she ran past and throwing her to the side of me. I heard a thump and looked over to see that she had hit her head on the side of the sofa, knocking her out. John however, recovered quickly and lunged for me, without knowing it I pulled a chair from the kitchens d threw it at his waist, he fell to the ground and cried out in pain, he must've blacked out or something because I couldn't hear him anymore. I can't get my mind to fully revolve around this, or anything, so I drop the gun and run outside, grab my bike, and pedal as fast as I can. When I get home I see some one in the kitchen, I get closer only to see the back of a black tuxedo, and tendrils.
It was him,
the man without a face.
