Beer and Bandages

The moment I woke up, I wished I never had. My head hurt like hell. I tried to remember what happened. So I started with things I knew for sure. I was walking in this small town when I heard two girls gossip about a haunted house. Some guys that they knew wanted to spend the night there. I had asked the girls where this house was and as soon as I got an answer I jumped in my car to drive there. Not knowing that another hunter was already hunting this thing. A lot of searching had happened and then the spirit had thrown a candlestick at my head. After that I couldn't remember anything until just a few minutes ago when I had woken up. I heard someone opening a beer bottle.

"I see that sleeping beauty has awoken" I heard Scarlett say. I slowly opened my eyes. She was seated across the room in an old cheap motel chair. She looked horrible. She had dried blood all over her face. She slowly sipped her beer. "Want one?" she asked pointing at her beer.

"Ya sure" I answered. I tried to get off the bed. My whole body ached. But I managed to get up. I walked towards the bathroom and looked in the mirror. I looked terrible as well. But unlike Scarlett (I seriously needed to ask her real name) I was taking care of. Or well, I had a Bandage wrapped around my head.

"Please tell me you killed the little bitch" I said while examining my face in the mirror. I had some bruises and cuts on my face and on my left arm and left leg. I must have fallen on my left side.

"Hell Yeah!" Scarlett said smiling and handed me a beer.

"Thanks ..." I said waiting for her to finish the sentence.

"... Rachel" she finished.

"Nice to meet you Rachel" I wanted to shake her hand, but she pulled it away.

"Don't even think that I'm shaking your hand while you haven't told me your name" she said. I laughed and said "My name is Lola"

"Well Lola I just want you to know that I normally prefer to hunt alone, but since we made a hell of a team back there, I might reconsider having a hunting partner"

"Well Rachel" I copied her "I just want you to know that if you would do me the honour to let me go hunting with you, I would be extremely happy"

She rolled her eyes at me. "Because I'm such a great person, I will accept."

I laughed and raised my beer bottle "To my new partner in crime" She did the same and said "To a new friendship". For a moment we both sipped our beer in silence, then the silence was broken by Rachel.

"I almost forgot to tell you, this guy keeps calling you. I didn't answer but-"

"shit, it's Saturday morning isn't it" I said more to myself then to Rachel. I ran back into the room and franticly began looking for my phone. Saturday was the check-in day. It was one of the rules that I needed to keep. Otherwise I didn't have permission anymore to hunt alone. I always found it a stupid rule, I mean I'm 23! And whenever Dean hunts alone he never has to check in!

"Your phone is on the bedside table" Rachel said watching me as I freaked out. I ran to the bedside table as my phone begin to rang again. I quickly answered it.

"Hi Lola speaking" I said as sweet as possible.

"Thank god! Lola! I thought something bad had happened!" I heard Deans voice on the other side of the line.

"Yeah sorry I didn't pick up, I was ... uhhmmm" I looked hopeful at Rachel. Who just laughed and shrugged. Great, what was I going to tell Dean that I passed out and a stranger took me to her motel. "I was busy?" I tried. Hesitation was clearly audible in my voice. Rachel chuckled. I knew as soon as the words left my mouth Dean wouldn't believe me. Why was I so bad at lying?

"Lola what happened? Dad is worried too. Are you in trouble?" Dean said. I could punch myself right now. He told John, great, just great. Dean was only a year older than me, but he acted like he knew what was best for me. At first I had hunted with them and Sam. But 2 years ago, when I started seeing my mom, I left them to hunt alone. I couldn't tell them about me seeing my dead mother and I couldn't keep lying to them. So I decided it was better to leave. The only condition was that I had to check in every Saturday. This was the first Saturday I didn't answer on the first call.

"I'm not in trouble" I said

"What is wrong with you?" Deans voice faded as someone took the phone.

"Hi Lola, Jhon speaking. I'm sure you have the situation under control, but if you could tell me where you are-"

"No that's not necessary!" I quickly interrupted him. "I-"

"Do you even know where you are?" Deans voice said again.

"I'm at a motel room" I tried.

"And where is the motel?"

"In the United States of America" I said. Dean did have a point I didn't know where I was, how I got here and if the person who I called my new partner could be trusted.

"Jesus Christ! Lola! How could you be so irresponsible to not know where you are!" Dean fell out. I sat down on the bed and hung my head low. I felt ashamed. I let them down.

"I suppose I could ask where I am..." I said quiet and I looked over at Rachel.

"We're in a motel just outside Norton, Kansas" she answered.

"Did you hear that?" I asked.

"Yeah ... who was that?" Dean asked carefully. He probably heard the change in my voice.

"Rachel, Rachel said that" I answered while I started to whirl a strand of hair around my finger. I didn't like it at all when people yelled at me or were angry with me.

"Who's Rachel?" he raised his voice again. I decided it was the best to tell them the truth.

"She took care of me when I was unconscious" I said, with my voice back to normal volume. Dean started to annoy me.

"What happened? And be honest with me!" Dean basically yelled.

"Dean" I heard John order in the background. I started to get angry. I hated how he always forbid me everything and the way he acted when I did something what he didn't like. He was such a hypocrite! Because he has made the same mistakes as I at least as many times as I have. It was one of the few things I didn't miss when I went to hunt alone.

"Not that it's any of your business what I do. Since I'm 23 and according to the law I'm an adult! But I was hunting a spirit and I ran into Rachel. Then the little bitch was throwing with candlesticks and I got hit in the head with one!" I touched the wound at the back of my head as I remembered it. "But I'm fine now! So next time when you call me please don't bore me with your stupid lectures! Because as I recall you aren't exactly the type to stay out of trouble!" and with those words I hung up.

"Wow" Rachel said. "please help me remember that I shouldn't piss you off." I put the phone back in my pocket and walked to the door. "Where are you going?" Rachel asked.

"To my car" I muttered. Rachel quickly stood up and ran after me. I had already opened the door when she said "Wait, there might be a little problem-"

"Where the fuck is my car!" I yelled out. That car was my life! Every time I needed to get away from hunting (or Dean), I would go and work on that car. I couldn't believe I lost my Third Generation Viper SRT-10 . It was only 2 years old, my dad was going to kill me!

"I didn't knew which car was yours and I even if I did, I didn't have your car keys. So we came here with my car. That means your car is still where you left it." I let out a frustrated sigh.

"Get your car keys, we're going to pick up my car"

"That's the spirit" Rachel said happy and gave me a pet on my shoulder.

"After that I'm going to buy us some new clothes and maybe some more bandages, because you look like shit."
